The Garden of the Little Flower

So, do we want the county to buy Camp LaGuardia?

What do you folks say?

Bear in mind that few gifts come without a price, or, as the ancient Latin American folksaying tells us: "The briefcase that Colonel North hands to you is always a little bit lighter than the one he was given in Langley."

Orange County awards $1.9M in grants for open space
January 24, 2007
Goshen - Orange County is awarding $1.9 million in grants to preserve open space in five towns.
County Executive Edward Diana plans to announce the grant winners at 11 a.m. today at the Fort Montgomery marina in the Town of Highlands. His staff hasn’t identified the projects, but said they’re in Wallkill, Warwick, Crawford, Goshen and Highlands.
Similar grants have been awarded twice a year since Diana pledged to spend $21.5 million on open-space preservation over five years. The goal is to retain scenic beauty and protect natural resources in one of the state’s fastest-growing counties.
Diana gave out $5.3 million in 2005 and 2006 to protect 2,075 acres. The money has been used to buy land, development rights and, in one case in 2005, a well for municipal use. Applications for the first round of 2007 funding, put at $3.5 million, are available on the county’s Web page. Go to www.orangecountygov.com/planning and click “grants and applications.”

Why doesn't the Town Board ever apply for any of these grants? I hope the Village officials will be more receptive to the county's money. Obviously Legislator Donnery is good at what she does, since the Town of Highlands keeps getting money...so why doesn't the Town and Village listen to her, apply for some grants, and let's get our chunk of the pie!!!
