The first Woodbury Town Board meeting under the guidance of the honorable John Burke has come and gone.
Burke set the tone of unity by voting against Sheila for the planning board. Magnanimity in victory! What a class act!
Erroneous did the same, but for different reasons. By the way, he’s now Deputy Supervisor. Sleep easy the Town’s in good hands tonight (Cato, pack my bag!).
Sheila was found acceptable by the rest of the board.
In the "Know Your Neighbor" Department. Burke pointed out, repeatedly, that he had had discussions with Harriman Mayor Steve Wells. Close, but no cigar. His name is Welle and we’re guessing he kinda likes to have the the people who run the two Towns his village sits in know that much, at least.
The fun part of the evening, Public Comment, while brief, did not disappoint.
Fred Ungerer demonstrated the art of the partial truth, twice. He mentioned that "some individuals" were suing the town over the the Brodsky Project. He neglected to mention that his wife was one of them. He then said that , because Sheila was named in the lawsuit, it might somehow be a conflict for her to serve on the planning board. The logic in that escapes the Uncle, but if it’s in there somewhere, wouldn’t the same logic also apply to John Burke and Mike Queenan, who are both named in the lawsuit the town is facing over the Village of Woodbury petition?
Bubble Reveille got up and made her version of Bo’s old foot-holding speech. A year and a bit ago, just after he had lost to Colleen, Bo Haviland got up and announced that he would be coming to every town board meeting from then on, to "Hold your feet to the fire." He wasn’t seen again for about 8 months.
Bubbles pointed out that she had nearly won, and would have, except for the fact that she didn’t and so she will serve the town in her own special way and no one had the nerve to ask what that was. Some people present feared that it involved cats in some way.
But it was the Rump Roast herself who managed to hit the low point for the evening and then head down from there. Carol Mullooly, proving that if there is anyone dumber, trashier or more hateful in town, they are locked in a basement, announced that Sheila’s appointment to the planning board left her "frightened...frightened for the future of the town." She also seemed to suggest that since Sheila was throw out of office she out to go away.
Burke had nothing to say.
The ladies of the board were less reticent and pointed out to Carol that she was a #%*&, a $%@!# and stupid too.
Swiller, wearing a jacket and tie and looking as if he had just come from his Bar Mitzvah, was the evening’s designated adult. In calm and measured tones he explained that Sheila’s knowledge of the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) was of untold value to the town and that we were lucky to have her on the planning board.
I tell you, that boy is sweet as pie.

You forget to mention Mr. Giacobbe's eloquent words!
Listen JS the way I see it, this will be the best TB in years becuase they all will get along.Four of them are all from the same party and with Shelia gone Mike A gets along with everyone and worked for Gerri and Mike to get elected. John will see the light and work with the team and from what I have heard he has not made any changes to the inside office. Look for many good things to come from all of them. Woodbury is in good hands!
Mike A will do whatever will get him re-elected, but he may have a problem with his ego getting in the way...he'll try to show John the ropes, and when John pushes back, there may be some friction. If they can all sweep politics, Caruso and Donnelly aside, then we may just have a chance of having a decent Town Board...by no means the best, but decent.
Hey Swiller who is Ziggy?
Homes to be built on Lake Anne Club
A group of investors has joined forces with the owner of one of southern Orange County's biggest chunks of prime real estate to build homes on the 862 acres that used to be Lake Anne Country Club.
Hal Greene, whose family has owned the Blooming Grove property for decades, says he has struck a deal with his new business partners - one of whom is Ziggy Brach, a prominent member of the opposition movement in Kiryas Joel.
The partners will share ownership of the land and split the profits from the sale of the houses they expect to build. The land was signed over Monday to the partnership, Keen Equities.
The group hasn't decided how many homes to propose, although Greene estimated around 200 and one investor suggested 250 to 300.
Ziggy Brach, a Brooklyn businessman and Highland Mills resident, is a supporter of the Kiryas Joel Alliance. He is currently trying to develop the former Kingdom Hall (in Monroe) but is being put through hoops by the Monroe Town Planning Board (much to the pleasure of Gedalye Szegedin and the Vaad haKirya which would probably be happiest with threats to its near monopoly on land sales to the people of KJ).
He has entered into partnership with Greene to develop one piece of the Lake Anne properties.
I see Bill tried his BS but lost.
Their partnership came as something of a surprise. Just two weeks earlier, Bohan said, Greene and Rockland County developer Bill Brodsky had met with him to discuss Brodsky building houses at Lake Anne. He said Brodsky talked about giving the town 100 acres of parkland, leveling land for ball fields and maybe expanding nearby Round Hill Elementary School.
But in return he wanted a 1000 homes.
Brandon Nielsen, Blooming Grove Town Councilman, tells me that, while Brodky has spoken to Charlie and the Board about developing that property, no one talked about 1000 units. The only number mentioned (based on 2 acre zoning with bonuses for clustering and benefits granted the town) was 350.
Sorry for the typo. It should have been "Brodsky" not "Brodky".
"Woodbrodsky, New York"
