Peace Reigns, Betty Flounders

In the absence of open warfare in the streets of Woodbury the Uncle has been reduced to writing about cell phone, gay marriage and dog parks.

While the nation and the world are in big juicy disarray, we here in the Village of Peace and Love are calm and serene and apparently hating every moment of it.

Caruso is nowhere to be seen (will he show up next week at his final ZBA meeting?). Swiller is wrapped up in Harriman and Thruway exits, the Town and Village boards are engaged in a love fest and Gedalye Szegedin is quietly planning his next annexation move.

Can we talk about Iraq, just a little, huh, huh?

we can talk about why hasnt the Republican Committee met since May. I guess Ralph dosent want to meet since he does not control the committee anymore and since he is embarrassed to show his face.

What the hell does that have to do with Iraq?

I think keeping Betty close to home is a much better idea. With that in mind, let's revisit the Republican Committee...with the end of Mr. Caruso's term on the ZBA and the possible end of his iron-fisted rule of the Republican Committee looming, where is he? I've been told he never congratulated the Community Part, but that seems to fit in that I've been told he never congratulated Mrs. Donnery either. A New Year's resolution for Mr. Caruso might be to learn how to be a kinder person...that whole "you get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar" theory might apply???

Things to look forward to in the New Year are that it's been said the Democrats in Woodbury believe they now have a springboard from the 06 state and national elections, so I understand that they want to get their candidates out there early with the hopes of joining Mr. Burke in office. Sadly, they don't seem to understand that by backing Mr. Caruso, they and Mr. Burke may have jumped into a black-hole. It would be wise to keep a close watch on where they are headed. And, will the Republican committee find themselves split into two factions, where some will back Ms. McNeil and some will go with Mr. Caruso's choice?

Ah yes, I do belive that there is still much to keep Betty busy with in Woodbury. As for Iraq, perhaps we can get Mr. Bush & his family to take an extended vacation there...perhaps then he will understand how wrong he has been, and bring our troops home!

Hey Kids!
You know Donny and Darlene who showed off her "Kitten".
Carol Mullully who looks worse than Nixon.
But do you recall
The most stupid people of all?

Seibold has his head up Ralphs rear.
Lets just see how far it goes.
Carol is so far from slim.
Her blubber just grows and grows.

Bubbles is the one we should fear
We shouldn't laugh or call her names.
Just because she takes her clothes off.
Running thru the streets insane.

Now if you really want to heave
Picture Ralph as Gay
With Larkin in a thong so tight
Singing, "Lets get down tonight".

I will write again so listen
In your pants I think you'll pee
With this group you can't help but Jeer.
We'll kick'em out of Woodbury

So who will be running with McNeil next year? As for Burke and Mike A on the Dem side who will join them?

Anonymous said...

"Hey Kids". Brillant. Thanks for the chuckle.

Since when is Mike A a Democrat (or being either party really matter much in this town, anyway? :P)

Now now, there must be SOME way to stir things up around here. Perhaps a Town vs Village snowball war! (assuming we get any, heh)

Of course, we'd all have to pick sides since most of us live in both places. Harriman could come in as a third faction if they like. It would give our two boards a chance to truly prove their mettle.

Just to up the ante... the board that wins gets to meet in Town Hall each week! And the losers could meet outside (should keep the meetings quick quick, as a bonus!)

I am a life long Republican living in Woodbury over thirty years and have been hearing many stories about the committee; can one of committee members or the chairmen answer these questions?

When was the last meeting?
Is it true that six members are married to each other and there is a mother and her daughter too making up eight members?
The meetings are not open to the public and if so why not?
The chairman is also the chairmen of another party?
When is the next meeting?
The committee did not support Nancy Calhoun?
The Chairmen appoints new members?
Three members are on the town board?
One member is the Highway supervisor?
One member is the Town Clerk?
One member is on the Village Board?
Three members are on the zoning board

To answer some of your questions the last meeting of the Woodbury Republican Committee was held in May. On average usually the committee is supposed to meet once a month.

The chairman does not appoint members. Vacancies on the committee are filled by the committee as a whole. Committeemebers run for re-election at each primary every two years. The next committee election is in September 2007. If no one challenges the two members from a particular district there is no election and the two members are declared elected. A recent example of a primary for committee was in District 4 in September 2005. In a three-way race with three candidates, Don Siebold, Susan Vrana and Jim Booth, both Siebold and Booth received the top two votes and were elected. Any enrolled republican can challenge a sitting member of the committee. You do not have to even live in the district you want to run in.

I dont believe there is anything wrong with a husband and wife or another family member who wants to sit on a committee...as long as they do the job and they are not just there to prop anyone up and actually attend the meetings there is nothing wrong with that.

Meetings of the Republican committee are sadly closed. However, there are members of the committee who want to open them up. Mr. Caruso and his cronies want them closed. However, things are starting to change on the committee and there is growing discontent with Caruso's leadership.

I would have more of a problem with husband and wife or mother and daughter teams on the committee then elected officials being on the committee. Husbands and wives or mother and daughter tend to vote in blocs.
Whereas elected officials don't always vote together, and they do not have the same loyalties as a husband and wife do.

How many of the husbands, wife’s, mothers or daughters have been elected or did they just get appointed by Ralph?

Is it true that six members are married to each other and there is a mother and her daughter too making up eight members?
Here are the Committee Members in no particular order:
Ralph and Jeanette Caruso (zoning board/husband & wife)
Peter and Joann Stabile (highway superintendent - village trustee/husband & wife)
Michael and Karen Queenan (town board/husband & wife)
Michael Aronowitz (town board), Geraldine Gianzero (town board), Desiree Potvin (town clerk), James Booth, Roberto Calderon, Russell ????, Joan Sullivan, Sheila Beadle (highway clerk), Joseph Gianzero (parks commission), Holly Gubernick (does not live in Town), Carmen Gubernick, Buddy M????(zoning board), Donald Siebold (zoning board) and Ronnie Querica (harriman dep village clerk)

The meetings are not open to the public and if so why not? The Board, as a whole, has not voted on this issue.

The chairman is also the chairmen of another party? No

When is the next meeting? they are usually held the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Senior Center

The committee did not support Nancy Calhoun? I thought they did

The Chairmen appoints new members? The entire committee does if there is a vacancy that occurs.

Three members are on the town board? yes

One member is the Highway supervisor? yes

One member is the Town Clerk? yes

One member is on the Village Board? yes

Three members are on the zoning board?

Hope this helps. BTW - most of this information has been obtained from the Board of Elections, the Towns website or by asking a member of the Committee.

Like everything else that takes place in our community, It is always the same people that make themselves available to get things done. If more people would avail themselves there would be more diversity in the committee members. Sadly the Republican meetings have been only opened to the public twice. This is something that "half" of the members want changed. The Mother/Daughter/ Husband/Wife members all represent DIFFERENT voting districts from their "mate" within our community. They are all indivudials in their thinking and do not align themsleves with their family members thinking unless it happens to benefit all the people.

If there is something you would like to do,
Why not come up with a Woodbury Haiku?
Or if that form is not to your liking
Then think until you find something else as striking!

With the cast of characters that continue to appear,
We can support or not; we can cheer or jeer,
Pick your favorites, cast a vote!
And on this we will certainly take note!

Will Don be our choice for a poetic slam dunk?
Or is there someone else to write about in a funk?
Will Ralph wake up and move on?
How was his last meeting with George, Buddy and Don?

Let's talk Village if you dare,
Will they remember their promise, will they care?
Does power really corrupt the mind and soul?
Will these officials forget the goal?

Come on Woodbury, let's have a focus!
Forget about the hocus pocus!
Allay your fears of a village/town grim reaper,
Like it or not, the village is a keeper!

So cast your vote and submit a name
We can have fun with this game
The challenge is out to write poem or prose
Take a look past your own nose!!!!
