Order and Justice

You are mistaken if you believe that law exists in order to ensure justice.

The purpose of law is to maintain order.

Justice is merely a secondary goal.

That is because those who rule and make the laws - in any society - value order far higher than they do justice.

Forgive the ramblings of an old man

I do not claim to be nostalgic for the old days, but I believe the word wistful applies. One always has regrets.

If there were such a thing as a club for retired despots - there isn't, for the most part we cannot stand the sight of one another - I believe that a majority sentiment of the members would be that we do not so much resent being asked to retire - in my case, it was time - as we do the fact that those who took our place almost always were a change for the worse.

And perhaps what most disgusts me about Caruso is not his lust for power, but how stupidly he manifests it.

My apologies, summer always reminds me of home.

I always hated the heat.
