Score the Snore

So, if you were one of the 50 or 60 folks who showed up, how do you rate the debate?

Early word has that the major fireworks weren't between Frank and Ralph, as was expected, but between James and Ralph -- and that Ralph doesn't fare so well when he is on the receiving end.

Some other points from our staff on-scene:

Everyone wants to have automated garbage collection.

F and J would like to either end the village or find a way to merge it into the town. G is against merger and for he village and R is still saying that all services should be run by the town and the village should transfer them back.

Frank was pretty much laid back. George was pretty much asleep (we think he was added to the ticket to make Ralph look exciting). James was a spitfire who repeatedly tore into Ralph and Ralph let us all know that he is a notary public.

There was consensus on many issues. One of the few splits was in answer to the question "Did you read KJ's amended FEIS on the pipeline?" Frank - yes; James - yes; George - no; Ralph - I didn't read it all, but I looked at it.

Also "How can Woodbury be made a better place to live?" Frank - keep our businesses strong; James - strengthen businesses and have a plan for smart growth; George - improve our parks; Ralph - elect me.

Most curious answer: George suggests that we may have to cut services and raise tax revenue - but not by raising taxes.

Funniest answer(s): Ralph tied with himself for this one:
1) "I've always supported full disclosure." (this was shortly before he explained that Republican Committee meetings were open except for all the ones that aren't)
2) When James challenged him about all the former Republican Town Board members who have reported that whenever they voted in ways that Ralph didn't like the Brilliant One would call the next day to ream them out: "I think that my opponent has been lied to - but I can tell you for a fact that I don't call people to yell and scream at them. I never do that."

High point of the evening: The Junior Peewee Pop Warner Cheerleaders singing America.

Low point: Everything after that.

who paid for the use of the school and how much did it cost ??

jonathan swiller said...

OCEAN made all the arrangements. The only cost was $150 for the purchase of insurance.

Anonymous said...

Didn't answer the question Jonathan-who paid for it? As usual, probably NOT you or OCEAN. As to your high and low points, you got the high one right, and for the most part the low one, but how come you didn't mention how your little darling repeatedly messed up on whose turn it was to speak and whther or not they were answering a question or rebuting? It certainly wasn't rocket science, and the questions were not that difficult to remember!

Hey Ben or Don or Steve,
Maybe you guys need to get a life that has meaning. Jackasses

Hey Gerri heard you did well, someone has an ax to grind.

VOTE JAMES SKOUFIS

Anonymous said...

Ben is the biggest jackass of them all, yelling out from the audience during the debate.

Anonymous said...

I could have fallen asleep it was so boring.Nothing new about anyone on that stage. At least James kept his word and took most of his signs down.

Anonymous said...

The attendance was very light. It is very sad that most people thought it was more important to watch the Yankee game than see their town candidates.

Anonymous said...

It would have been nice to see Mr. Burke & Mr. Kelemen answer some questions since they were both in the audience!

Anonymous said...

Like I said on the other blog, lets see... watch the Yankees lose....or go to a crappy debate! Thats easy watch the Yankees lose, in fact I'd rather be stuck in weekend traffic from the woodbury common! Are you kidding me!

Tonight will be different, No crappy debate and the Yankees will win!!

Anonymous said...

No sports! Only political garbage on this site pal!

Anonymous said...

It is nice to know the official candidate for Superviser was in the audience last night. In following the procedures John Burke is on the ballot. He did the work and is putting in the effort, unlike John Kelleman who took the chicken shit way out.

Anonymous said...

Yea, okay, beleive that if you want too, but let me know this, when is my bullshit great pumpkin flyer coming out, letting me know how BAD Kelemen is and how great Burke is! Can't wait for that load of crap to arrive! Do you think we all have no memory, Do you think we are all idiots! hmmm.. Will it be on my garbage can, or in my mailbox, my windshield on my car, or will they drop them from above like the the Air Force!

Anonymous said...

Wow! Burkes last minute "Great Pumpkin Flyer" I almost forgot!

Anonymous said...

Burke did the work???What work? He's a member of the Democratic committee-where's the work? His committee walked the damn petitions, so give me a break! About the only work he did was badmouth John Jones to the committee so that they refused to endorse him against Stabile-thus leaving the door wide open for Burke to wear the second hat of Deputy. Funny-I haven't seen Burke walking or even driving the turf...but I have seen Kelemen doing it and getting his message out. And in case you need to hear it again, there is nothing against the "rules" about launching a write-in campaign-which is a much more DIFFICULT way of getting elected, but at least it allows Kelemen the freedom of not having to kiss ass or be obliged through political favors like most of the other current elected officials of the Town and Village!

Anonymous said...

JJ or CW true colors are flying.

Kelemen is not a recognized candidate.

Has he submitted financial reports to the County and State?

Where did anyone say a write-in was not allowed.

What jackasses!

Beware JK, CW doesn't do anything without a price to pay!

Anonymous said...

Kelemen could've gotten on the ballot as an independent candidate and, still, not had to kiss any asses.

Anonymous said...

John Kelemen doesn't stand a chance.
Let's focus on the real election, the council seats.

James won that debate. I just wish he was a little less aggressive.Frank and Ralph did O.K.

George needs some public speaking lessons.

To the person who felt the need to pick on Gerri who isn't even running, I suggest you lay off.

Gerri you did great. It was obvious you were reading through and sorting out cards while the debate was going on. Perhaps you should have asked for assistance so that when the debate started you would have had all the questions weeded out and in order.

Some people are just smucks.

Anonymous said...

Who cares who paid for it,like it really matters, this country is in so much debt and not to mention at war,so really who gives a shit, don't you have anything else besides that stupid question.

jonathan swiller said...

The answer isn't all that interesting.
I paid for it. The insurance is good for a year and covers all debates and forums that we do.

I agree that the kids singing America were the high point. However I don't agree that everything after that was the low point. While it wasn't the most exciting debate of all time, it gave people a chance to ask questions and see how the candidates handled themselves.

HAND JIVE said...

Hand jive, Hand jive, Hand jive, doin that crazy Hand jive!

Anonymous said...

Anyone else find it hysterical that Ralph completely ignored the weakness part of the question, "What is your greatest strength and weakness?"

He must be perfect!

Anonymous said...

Ralphs greatest weakness is the ability to understand a two part question!

Anonymous said...

It's obvious to me that the only people who went to the debate are the only ones who post on this blob -- oops, blog. It's also obvious that Uncle Betty was not really listening to all of the questions (ie: Frank did not read all of the amended FEIS; James is the only one who says he read the whole thing). Since there was such a light turn out, it's also obvious that whatever is on this blog is just a couple of Ralph bashers who want to be heard. Apparently, your minds have been made up, no matter what any other candidate says. So, who are the jackasses?

Anonymous said...

Kelemen did't take the chicken way out. He's just LAZY!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

807 is right, Frank did not really talk about what he has done to fight the KJ Pipeline and he did not talk about what he would do. He did mention something about making sure the roads were patched up.
At least Ralph seemed committed to fighting the pipeline. And he admitted that he did not read the entire Amended EIS; how many of you have?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Kelemen did it this way so he wouldn't have to put all Burkes dirty tricks and last minute flyer garbage! Burke is the greatest at gathering information and appearing to be a nice ole man, but then when you least expect it!!

WHAM!!!

jonathan swiller said...

Gerri just reminded me - when I bought the insurance (at the time of the last village debate) Keleman contributed $100 to us. I only had to put in $50. Sorry about the memory lapse.

About the only honest thing in the debate was Gentleman George-he doesn't hide behind anything or anyone, and speaks the truth, whether it's what anyone wants to hear or not. George admittedly does not have the same experience as the others (albeit I wouldn't really consider James as having experience), but he has been involved in local politics for many years and has contributed to the town thru his volunteer service. I admire the person that can throw their hat into the ring, be surrounded by the vicious "wolves of Woodbury" and still be a gracious candidate.

Anonymous said...

I agree. And it seems that many people in Woodbury don't like Frank and have problems with Ralph, so that leaves George and James.
And as Gerri points out, each candidate is from a different party, so why not a Dem and a conservative? Better than the other two.

Anonymous said...

3 seconds after Kelemen loses CW won't even wave to him and all the so called Kelmen supporters will have Kelmens signs in the trash by 10pm. Sorry losers

Anonymous said...

I like James, the aggressive new approach is just what the Town needs, I can't vote for Ralph I couldn't before and I won't now! The fact that George is always with him turns me off! I wish we had a real candidate for supervisor and I think Woodbury should have term limits!

Burke, ludite that he is, will never be able to save the Townspeople money. Kelemen, on the other hand, would encourage thinking outside the box and promote the use of technology, thereby being able to work efeectively and efficiently on a part-time basis. Burke doesn't even use a damn computer for G-d's sake! Just imagine if town hall was brought into this century as far as technology goes. Instead, under Burke we have been left in the DARK AGES!

of course Teddy Jones supports Kelemen and Palermo(T-H Record letter). While councilmen, they kept him on as acting chief for five years until he could pass the chief's test. He owes them bigtime.

Anonymous said...

I don't think it was five years, but Frank & John did approve gold plated contracts for the P.D.

Does this mean that Caruso is behind the write in campaign's for John and Dan?

IS this Caruso's revenge against Burke and Peter?

Anonymous said...

Maybe I'm just sleepy, help me! what do you mean by connect the dots?

Anonymous said...

Kelemen is still pissed that the current office holders are the ones that used to give him a hard time, Weeks is pissed his wife lost the election, Ralph is pissed he cant win an election!

Anonymous said...

Can someone please define "Gold plated contract" to me, what does that mean? now we know that Burke hates the cops or at least the Chief, thats probably why the cops are pulling for Kelemen, as far as the highway guys and the rest of the Town employees its simple enough, if you were around Burke everyday you vote against him too.

Anonymous said...

It seems that most of John K.s supporters are the good old boys. He didn't have the balls to get petitions to get on the ballot, but he has spent big bucks on advertising. Since he is not a "candidate" no financial disclosures are required. Who are his backers? Brodsky, Acorn, The PBA, or KJ ??? JIM whats your spin on this?????

Anonymous said...

KJ is in the bag, My sources tell me they are coming out for kelemen, I'll explain later, it's complicated, the cops.. kelemen, brodsy who knows, the old guard. kelemen, acorn.. most likely Burke..

Anonymous said...

I find it funny Ralph's ad is on the obituary page of the Photo News, right where it belongs, his ability to get elected died about 30 years ago when he lost his last election to the Town Board.

Anonymous said...

You people are funny...

John K will not win. Why are we spending so much time on him. KJ votes are a joke in this town. Just like they got Steph her votes right?

JAMES SKOUFOS FOR TOWN COUNCIL!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Dan who?

Anonymous said...

Dan somethingoranother - running for Superintendent of Highways as a write-in.

Oy.

Anonymous said...

Okay, other then being pissed that his wife lost the last election, why would Weeks support Kellman, it doesn't add up, maybe cliff is doing the chiefs dirty work

cliff would be one vote closer to becoming police chief if kellman wins

After picking up his literature at Jay's, I did a little research.
Daniel Vaughn running for Highway Supt., lists his address as 35 Serpi Road.
Curious thing - the record owner is listed as Esther Schwimmer, at
Unit 1, 50 Middleton, Brooklyn, NY.
Interesting, huh? What connections does this guy have?????

To Jim Skoufis -- you did not respond to the 10/31, 10:04 poster. You have responded to other blog posts. How come not this one? Something to hide?

Since there were NO financial disclosures filed, How do you expect anyone to really know who is financially backing the Kelemen?

And you expect a candidate for office to answer that? You dope.

Anyone else get the bullshit flyer signed by Carol Mullooly (and, I'm sure, approved by Ralphie)? Urges people to vote for a "bipartisan" ticket consisting of BURKE, Caruso, and Pederson.

When will the manipulation stop? Can anyone in this town win an election honestly without tricking voters???

Anonymous said...

Remember Woodbury voters a vote for Kelemen is a vote for KJ!!

Anonymous said...

based on what? I am curious as to why you think that would be the case?

Anonymous said...

The news was delivered by rump roast,
"Friend of John" she is likely to boast,
The "team" she does espouse,
consists of neither man nor mouse,
but a cadre of bas@#rds at most!

Not surprised John would screw his "team",
We know Frank was not his dream,
But poor James Skoufis,
John treats like a doofis,
John is not as nice as he would seem!!!!

It must be approved by Burke,
because if not, Carol wouldn't do the work,
So, another flyer on the door,
Need I say more?
Who here is the biggest jerk?
