Hoorahs, Horseshoes and Handgrenades

Congratulations to Neil Crouse and David Sutz, and in Monroe: James Purcell, Teddy Wright and Wayne Chan, winners in their village elections.

Congrats also to Lorraine McNeil, John Karl, Charlie Lesser and Inda Stora, both for past service and their willingness to put themselves out there.

Congrats, lastly, to the few hundred who managed to get down to the polls and vote.

And to the vast majority, who couldn't be bothered, who knew for a fact that one vote doesn't make any difference, we'll point out that David won by eight votes and James won by two.

If you'd voted the winning margins might have been larger or the outcomes different, no one will ever know because it just wasn't worth your time.

To quote Ken Starr as he logged Monica's dress into evidence: "Clothes, but no cigar."

So lets get down to business...when will Mayor Mike unveil the plans (which apparently have been kept HIGHLY secret) for becoming coterminous? Afterall, isn't that what brought out all those hundreds of voters last year? Where are THEY now, and why aren't they questioning why there are still two separate governmental bodies in Woodbury??

The same reason why hardly anyone goes out to vote and no one attends either board's meetings - PEOPLE JUST DON'T CARE ENOUGH!

Even those wimps who post anonymously on this blog are too afraid to show up to things for one reason or another.

Orange Count Quietly Drops Lawsuit Over KJ Pipeline!
Village free to tap new source of water; Diana faces criticism

By Chris Mckenna
Times Herald-Record
Posted: March 31, 2010 - 2:00 AM
Orange County has dropped its lawsuit against Kiryas Joel's proposed water pipeline, removing the only legal obstacle to plans to tap the Catskill Aqueduct as a new water supply for the growing community.

Court records show the county surrendered its objections with a three-page statement signed by attorneys for both sides and state Supreme Court Justice Francis Nicolai in February.

The end of two pipeline lawsuits spanning almost six years might have passed unnoticed but for that slim court filing.

County Executive Ed Diana announced the second lawsuit with a news release last year but made no statement in withdrawing it this year.

He was on vacation Tuesday and couldn't be reached for comment.

The settlement itself comes as no surprise. Court papers show that representatives of the county and village have met privately since last summer to resolve both the pipeline lawsuit and a second case with overlapping issues about sewage treatment.

The central concern county officials raised in 2004 and 2009, when they challenged Kiryas Joel's environmental review for the pipeline, was that it didn't explain how the county would treat the village's increased sewage if it tapped New York City's water supply.

But after negotiating with Kiryas Joel, the county effectively answered its own question by declaring it could meet rising sewer demand for several years and will simply expand service once the system reaches 85 percent of its capacity.

County lawmakers approved that resolution Feb. 4.

Kiryas Joel officials, on vacation until April 7 because of Passover, couldn't be reached for comment. They conceived the 13-mile pipeline a decade ago as a long-term replacement for the village's patchwork of wells. The estimated cost is about $30 million.

County Legislator Roxanne Donnery and former county Legislator Frank Fornario — who fought for both pipeline lawsuits — voiced frustration with Diana on Tuesday for dropping the case, arguing that sewage treatment remains an unresolved issue.

"He's been fighting this with both hands tied behind his back," said Fornario, who is now Blooming Grove town supervisor.

The operative word here folks is QUIETLY! Why do you think our dear little weasel EDDIE DIANA didn't want this publicized?? Because he wanted us NOT TO KNOW-that way the legal clock would tick away and we wouldn't be able to fight it...well attention WOODBURIANS, it's time to get off your asses and revolt! If there was ever a time for an article 78 against the county, it would be now. Seems the Citizens for the Preservation of Woodbury are trying to start a grass-roots effort to do just that with their forum on 4/21/10 at the CV Elementary School, but with Mr. Caruso at the helm, sadly people may not listen...I will admit though that in this instance, we need to put our differences and EGOS aside, JOIN TOGETHER and fight this thing-otherwise good neighbors of Woodbury, you may as well put the FOR SALE signs up now.

Ralph is a republican,
Ralph worked for Bill Larkin who is a republican,
Ralph has known/worked with Eddie Diana who is a republican,
KJ has supported republicans in the past...

Does anyone see a connection here?

Having Ralph and his followers sponsor a meeting to save Woodbury is a slap in the face. Why didn't Ralph let us know years ago what Bill and Eddie were up to?

Anonymous said...

It's good that Eddie is taking a vacation after working SO hard for us! ASSHOLE

Anonymous said...

What part of putting aside differences and egos didn't you understand?? Nice to sit back and do nothing while KJ lights the fuse (aka the pipeline) so they can start their even bigger population explosion...wonder when the annexation papers will be served??

Anonymous said...

I think Swiller and Ziggy must LOVE that no one trusts Ralph!

Anonymous said...

I might attend Ralph's meeting just to see how misinformed he really is.

Maybe as a show of good will Ralph may take volunteers from the audience to work side by side with him.

Do you really think KJ women are waiting for a pipeline to have larger families!?

The idea that stopping the KJ pipeline would stop KJ growth is idiotic.

Anonymous said...

Certainly they are not waiting to have their offspring; however in order to wash all those clothes, bathe, cook and simply operate their toilets properly they WILL need water or be forced to MOVE!

Anonymous said...

So Unc-you seem so very concerned over the OCWMP, why aren't you promoting the forum on 4/21/10...afraid Ralph might actually make some sense in trying to pull people together-or afraid he'll show you up??

From the TH-R:

Woodbury Junction developer working on new water

By Chris Mckenna

Posted: April 07, 2010 - 2:00 AM
CENTRAL VALLEY — Planned in a building boom and begun in a bust, William Brodsky's 451-home Woodbury Junction has crept forward since its kickoff in September 2007: Three homes have been sold so far, out of nine that are finished.

But Brodsky, who also built the 67-home Country Crossings and 250-home Brigadoon developments in Woodbury, expects a couple of sales at his latest venture within the next two months, and he shrugs off a housing-market plunge that he can't reverse.

"I would like it to be 2004, but it's not," he said.

Lately, Brodsky, the CEO of The Carteret Group in Pearl River, has been working on a new way to supply more water to Woodbury Junction after backing away from his request to drill wells in the surrounding open space he donated to the town.

He approached the Town Board about tapping that groundwater last fall because his original water plans were in limbo.

But he said Monday that he now hopes to draw water from a neighboring parcel instead of the protected green space around his development site; he would have to buy this potential well site.

Ultimately, he said, he plans to donate the water supply and two water storage tanks to the town. "If we accomplish what we're trying to, it's much better for the town," Brodsky said.

His development plans caused sharp divisions in town in 2005 and 2006 because he asked for zoning changes that enabled him to triple the number of homes — in return for preserved open space and donated infrastructure. The Town Board approved those changes in 2006.

SO WHAT DEAL IS OLD BILL CUTTING NOW...PERHAPS WITH ZIGGY AND THE WELLS AT COUNTRY CROSSING? WHAT A JOKE!

Does the Town & Village of Woodbury do this???

Orange County Confidential: Chester shops around, saves on 04/08/10
Chester Supervisor Steve Neuhaus says the town will save more than $100,000 a year by rebidding contracts for insurance, garbage removal, electricity and the town's phone system. The "comparative shopping" spree, as Neuhaus called it, resulted in thousands of dollars a month in additional savings. "It's just about getting more for our buck," he said, adding that he has been sharing the knowledge with other towns. "We're really proud of this," he said.

How much did Bo save us for garbage? Oh, tht's right, ended up COSTING us money!!!!

Anonymous said...

Is there anyone on that town board that we can trust to do the right thing?

Anonymous said...

So who is off the Planning Board and why?

Anonymous said...

There is a brand new huge pipe in the village of monroe @ the end of schunnemunk st. CROSSING the bridge over Rt 17 that leads to KJ. Sitting in plain site on the bridge hooked up at the KJ end of the bridge. This is a water pipe sitting on top of the bridge. How dangerous is that?

Anonymous said...

Karls service was purely self interest. So no thanks to his service. Glad he was voted out.
The village quality of life sank further under his adminstration. the western part of the village is riddled with drugs/prostitution/high traffic from the Chassids commercial trucks using residential streets besides their never ending caravans of minivans. That is the legacy of Karl.

Gee Ralph, does that mean you consider us to be part of the press?

Paid off said...

Yeah we should let Brodsky have some other type of water system, hmmm, sound good to me! why not let the company that originally fixed the Central Valley pond drill or hook up the water for Brosky, that should work! Oh did I say that, I almost forgot Brodskys company was the one that originally fixed the pond, yeah sorry, he should get someone else to do it for him.

What the hell is spring cleaning day?

When all good volunteers in Woodbury take to the streets and clean up the messes of those who couldn't care less! Great idea James, and I'm glad you're moving forward with it! Keep snickering Carlton & Frank...you both could use some exercise!

Anonymous said...

I didn't vote for him, but you can't say James doesn't put in the time. I don't know where he finds room to sleep.

Anonymous said...

Since James signed a letter in the Photo News as Town of Woodbury Councilman showing negativity to Brodsky, does this mean he has to remove himself whenever Brodsky is before the Town Board?

Can he be impartial if Brodsky approaches the Town Board now or in the future?

Research, research and more research before striking out James.

Anonymous said...

George retires !!!
HMMMMMMMMMMMM?????????

Anonymous said...

SHOWING NEGATIVITY??? I'd say he was just writing the truth about a guy who couldn't care less about Woodbury...he's just about done raping the land, as there is little area left to destroy. He may as well have sold WP3 to KJ since he builds like they do-without any regard for the environment or the surrounding properties. At least Mr. Skoufis stands up for what he believes in...too bad the other weasely councilmen and trustees don't!

Anonymous said...

James should figure out a way to revoke Brodskys building privileges in Woodbury.

Anonymous said...

Legally Brodsky can build, he received approvals.

James does not have the jurisdiction over Brodsky the Village does.

So maybe that lawsuit a while back wasn't so frivolous after all? Brodsky threatened and wheeled and dealed and Woodbury ran scared and gave him what he wanted. Now we have to live with it as I hear he has sold out to another builder. Thanks a lot! Good for Skoufis for speaking out. If the others had any brains they will vote against Brodsky just based on his record. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.

About time the users of this blog see the light. Too bad you supported Conroy and her minions when they were in office and got us into this mess with their evoking of the five laws. That action was then repeated with our Valley girl mayor during the Legacy Ridge vote.

Will we ever learn.

pinchos woolstone Says: There will always be tension when a easily identifiable MINORITY community creates a village/township as is the case of Satmar in Monroe.
It is up to the Board of the Satmar Community to be diplomatic and CLEVER enough to do all in their power to work with the local civil authorities and the residents of the Monroe.
I am sure they are doing that with regard to the pipeline and all other matters.
A true source of Mayim Chayim

I put into caps two very interesting words used by the commentor... KJ is far from a minority, especially in their exploding population, and I wonder just how they are being "clever" with local municipal leaders to get what they want...who is making a deal with who...time to wake up Monroe & Woodbury and start questioning LOUDLY your local leaders and ask the tough questions...what are the Supervisors, Mayors, Legislators & County Exec willing to put on the table when it comes to KJ?? Who will take the money and run??

Village of Woodbury releases 2010-11 budget

Woodbury - For the coming fiscal year, the Woodbury Village budget lists $823,475 as the amount to be raised by taxes for the general fund.

This is an approximate 8.5 percent average increase - excluding water and sewer charges - for the approximate $5.5 million total budget.

Village Mayor, Michael Queenan said no board or administrative staff received any raise in the new budget. He said costs have risen significantly, including a proposed 35 percent increase in liability insurance.

SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT WHOLE IDEA ABOUT BECOMING ONE GOVERNMENT?? SEEMS LIKE THE CURRENT VILLAGE BOARD IS PRETTY COMFORTABLE WITH TWO!!

Anonymous said...

A ploy to get elected. Queenan is slick.

Anonymous said...

The two governments can't even decide on who would run the damn thing, EGO vs EGO! Queenan's partner in crime, Calhoun, can't even get the damn issue to the floor of the assembly! Last poster got it right. All a "soundbite" to get elected at the expense of the Woodbury taxpayer. Guess we should have known that nothing ever changes when it comes to politics!
