Update From The Pieman

On the Easement KJ sought for a water pipe to cross the Heritage Trail:

It had became apparent to the Legislature that Frank Fornario had the votes to table the issue, so it was dropped from the agenda. This means that it will come before the Physical Services in three weeks (as it should).

Another item was on the agenda - should the county turn over a section of Rt 44 (west from Forest Road) to KJ so that the Village could put in a sidewalk?

There were a series of speakers, all opposed to turning over part of Rt 44 to the Village: Brandon Nielson (Blooming Grove Town Councilman), Gary Dugan (South Blooming Grove Home Owners Assn), Myrna Kemnitz (Democratic Candidate for Legislature from Monroe) and from Woodbury Neil Crouse, Ralph Caruso and Me.

Roxanne Donnery offered a motion that the bill be sent back to the Physical Services Committee. This passed 15 to 5. The 5 who did not want to table the issue were Michael Amo, Michael Pillmeier, Leigh Benton, Daniel Depew and Bill Lahey. Lahey chaired the session and was rude and abraisive to the speakers and to those legislators on the other side of the issue from himself.

My own view was that a sidewalk was an important and valuable addition - particularly because of the number of walkers on the road on the sabbath (including mothers with strollers) but that a way should be found to grant KJ an easement to build the sidewalk without turning over part of an important county through road to a village with a history of acting without any consideration for the needs of neighboring municipalities.

After the session one of the legislators told me that he thought that this vote killed the possibility of a sidewalk. I hope this isn't so. Safety requires one. As Sheila Conroy has pointed out, Woodbury maintains sidewalks on route 32, while the state controls the road itself.

On their Rte 44 request, what, if anything, could stop KJ from closing that portion of the road (if turned over to them) to stop traffic from going through altogether? Why not just allow them to put in sidewalks while the county maintains ownership and control? If sidewalks are their main objective, then why not just petition the county to put in the sidewalks? What am I missing...an ulterior motive for their request?????

One thing that you're missing is that's exactly what Swiller told the legislators and posted here.

wow nothing about the dead kid floating in the central valley pond??? Great investment that pond....

To the latest "anonymous" poster- you're an asshole in plain English!

Dead kid? Do you even know his name? What does a young man drowning in the CV pond have anything to do with fixing the pond?

Many residents call the CV pond their second home during the summer. It was a good investment on the town's part and I just hope they continue fixing all the aging infrastructure and town facilities.

I just hope that the County Health Dept gets off its "dead" ass and allows the pool to re-open.

Maybe they should clean the F-ing thing up first so the lifegaurds can see the people in it... Who would swim in that shit anyway??

Anonymous said...

the point is that they didnt fix the pond if the kid drowned and nobody saw him. real shame. seems like they were in too much of a hurry to open it and it bit them in the ass...

Remember John Burke pushed to have the CV Pond opened "on time".

I guess we finally have our village idiot, posting that poor comment about a young life lost.

1st; It is amazing, how one simple minded, non caring person can wake up this blog. And I agree with everyone who gets on his/her case.
2nd; It is a known fact that the waters in these parts have lots of iron in them.Making it brown and murky.
I just went through an expensive repair for my well's filtering system. Now I get clear, drinkable water.
Of course maintening a pool will be alot more. But with all the money that went into bringing the pond back from the dead.
Why wasn't a better filtering system added?

The "dead kid" was Mark G. Persing Jr., of Monroe.

He was just two weeks shy of his 21st birthday.

His brother Matt also lives in Monroe.

He was buried in Highland Mills.

His family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place East, Landover, Md. 20785.

Has there been a Town Board meeting since this tragedy, and what has the Board's response been, other than Mr. Burke attending the young man's wake?

To change the subject- can someone please tell me who and why the "Shame on Orange County Choppers" sign was put in front of the closed Woodbury Diner? Seems our town/village has become a dumping ground for these pesky little signs of late. What's going on? Where's Gary and the code enforcement officer? I thought we had rules in this town/village????

ask our mayor ...........the village is in charge of all zoning/building dept/planning board/ and all the enforcement of any violations regarding same .... ask her why the "Main Room" and the" electical shop" at the corner of rt 32 and Shuit Pl. are still open as they were denied any variences back in june/july ....... Route 32 is our main street why is it becoming a pig sty . ??? When Mr.. Burke was in charge of these dept. violations were followed up on and rt. 32 looked alot better !!

So, if you're saying Mr. Burke is no longer "in charge", then make him reduce his large salary!

Uncle Betty said...

Mr. Burke was never "in charge." Nor was any town supervisor. A supervisor is just one member of a town board, and, unlike a Mayor, has no executive power.

I agree, 32 was much nicer when Mr. Burke was "in charge". That's why we have a wonderful abdandoned gas station with little or no tax revenue instead of a nice shiny ratable as a Quickcheck. Guess Mr. Caruso didn't want it.

Hey Unc- Why isn't the Woodbury Parks & Rec Website kept up-to-date? In this age of technology, you'd think they'd have some great design and current information. Heck, their last meeting info says it was to be held in 4/05! Why even have a website that you ask people to "please visit" if you're not going to keep it updated. I'm sure Gilda and the commissioners have plenty of downtime in the fall and winter that they could figure out how to maintain the site, or take it down if they are going to use it efficiently. Does that site cost the Town anything?

As to the "Shame on the Choppers" sign in front of Woodbury Diner - if it is in the State Right of Way,
neither Gary, John Burke or Stephanie have any jurisdiction to do anything. In case you forgot, Route 32 is a NYS Highway!
Only the State has jurisdiction.

..."When Mr. Burke was in charge of thse dept. violations were followed up on and Rt 32 looked alot(a lot)better!
These signs are not a new phenomenon. There were plenty of signs along Route 32 when Mr. Burke was 'in charge.' Again, neither he nor the Mayor have any jurisdiction!!!
There was also a sign ordinance proposed many years ago BEFORE THE VILLAGE. It met with a lot of resistence. The ordinance was NOT passed.
How do you know that the Mayor HASN'T followed up with violations?
Have you asked her? There happens to be a Village Board meeting this coming Tuesday, the 14th. Why don't you come and ask her then? There is time alloted for public participation.

Another reminder of when Mr. Burke was 'in charge' - QuickChek came before the Town Board to present their proposal at the abandoned Mobile Station in Central Valley.
The Board (to include Mr. Burke who probably got his marching orders from Mr. Caruso), did not think this site was suitable for a QuickCheck primarily due to traffic safety.
That's why it still remains vacant!

On another subject..Parks& Recreation website - did you ever ask yourself why the Town's website isn't up to date either?
Mr. Aronowitz is assigned to be the webmaster, yet can't seem to find the time to keep things updated or included at all.
Let's work on that too!

Let's work on that too!” That is not true; I have not been involved with that website since I left the Parks commission three and half years ago. Please get your facts right when you blame me for something and want to throw me under the bus!

There must be an election coming up with all the names being tossed around.......

The town did have a sign law on the books. Didn't Risa Sugarman sue many villages & towns because of their sign laws? Wasn't she a democrat who lost and was associated with Robert Donnelly back in 2001? Due to the lawsuit the town removed the section regarding free standing signs, so now anyone can put signs up.

Maybe the Village Board needs to have a public hearing proposing a revised/updated law that involves all types of signs. Then the Village building department could enforce a law that is on the books.

What's up with the newest barrage of little signs on the Rte 32 telephone poles...for example- "We buy houses..." Rte. 32 is really looking dumpy. If the phantoms of the night can put them up, why can't annoyed residents just as easily take them down? If there are NO laws covering them, what would I be breaking if I decided to take them off the poles??

Go for it. ......I've been doing it for years... It's time for someone else to clean up this crap !!
