Fairness In Action

OK, so the Uncle is not a great fan of the man in the White House and this week his actions brought even more to piss and moan about.

It's true that I am not happy about the veto of the S CHIP program which would have extended health care for children.

I admit, that I was further put off, but not surprised that the troop "drawdown" of "at least a brigade" that Mr. Bush promised the nation isn't going to happen.

But, hey, there may well be pretty damn logical explanations for all this.

And, no doubt, there are those of you out there who like George Bush, think he's doing a slam bang job, and know what those pretty damn logical explanations are.

So, please, tell us.

The Uncle looks forward to reading the comments that you post explaining all this.

Thanks.

I have said this many times before...there are many places to go and discuss national stuff...only one website to discuss Woodbury...this one. Isn't there a town election this year. If you look at the last election in 2005 this site was very active...kind of boring now. Isn't there anything going on in Woodbury we can talk about??

Whets happening in the town elections?

Any report as to what is going on in the Republican Committee since the primary caused Ralph to regain full control...was Ralph reelected Chairman and who else was elected?

Whets new in the Village...village elections will start up just after the town elections basically. Anyone know who is or is not running?

Maybe a discussion also as to whether we should have another referendum on whether to keep the village or now that we have more knowledge of at least what the village is or isn't doing for us. (is doing allot of what we weren't told and doing little of what we told it would)

C;mon Uncle...bash the President on some MoveOn.org blog...lets discuss Woodbury here!!

Has anyone in Woodbury heard the latest involving the Village Board? Their attorney tells them what to do and they say "Okay".

The inexperienced five Village Board members voted yes to an agreement with Kiryas Joel to move forward with the water tower(s). Their attorney tells them this is the way to go since it is cheaper than litagation.

WHAT HAPPENED TO STANDING UP FOR WOODBURY AND FIGHTING TO PROTECT US AT ANY COST?

The Village gets to choose the "Color" of the tank. Wow!

The Building Inspector gets to inspect the area without a locked fence stopping him. Double Wow!

Kiryas Joel can't drill for the water. Oh gee, how lucky for us in Woodbury.

The Village puppets listen to their attorney and they don't even have the courtesy of informing the Town Board members of this agreement.

Remember the Village Board members platform statements:

"Work closely with Town Board "

“Help us secure the future of Woodbury now!”

"The Bottom Line for Honesty and Integrity"

"Competently & diligently defend against all annexation attempts"

It has only been 11 months since they were voted into office and they can't even remember what they promised the residents of Woodbury. Maybe they forgot to get permission from their attorney.

How quickly they forget who put them into office, the residents of Woodbury who believed in them.

Is there anyone out there willing to get a petition going in order to dissolve the Village?

Anonymous said...

Can you stop for a minute and think that maybe, just maybe their attorney could be right in his guidance? Just because their decision goes against what YOU think is proper, doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do right now.

You make me laugh. In your estimation, the Town and Village should spare no expense to fight anything to do with KJ. Well, when will enough be enough??? Say we do it your way and spend $10k, $50K, $100k battling this water tower issue, and then KJ turns around and finally hits us with the ANNEXATION papers that we all know are coming...where does that $$ come from oh wise one? Personally, I think the Village does need to choose their battles wisely, or face bankrupting the Village and Town. It's not like the Village is ignoring the situation. Their trying to deal with it leaglly, and doing so being mindful of US, the taxpayers. Lawsuits are not cheap, and in case you don't realize it, WE ALL pay for them.

Mr. Burke, in his first election campaign, declared that he would spend every last nickel to fight KJ, even if it meant NOT paving roads, and not taking care of the Town's infrastructure. Using that way of thinking, what will we have left to protect?

I think the last poster needs to get off their high horse, leave their ego at the door, and do some research rather than simply bail on the current administration!

Anonymous said...

I think the last poster should get off his hasidic yamika!! It has been standard policy for all officials of Woodbury, both town and (I thought) village to go with the notion of "Not one INCH!!"
Perhaps we should check the Village's lawyer's firm and see who their other clients are ---KJ!??

It would be very surprising that individuals like Neil Kraus on the scene and Maria Hunter behind the scenes would let such a travesty happen. If that vote did go as you say then Valley girl Stephanie should immediately resign and worry about giving birth ... to a human

Anonymous said...

It's not the village government that needs to go. It's the village people/idiots that need to go

Anonymous said...

I agree, all the village trustees and the mayor should go!!

Anonymous said...

don't worry. she'll never make it through another term,.. not with two babies...I mean three

Anonymous said...

I wonder if the voters are saying to themselves "why did we elect officials who were against the creation of the village in the 1st place " when the overwhelming majority of residents wanted a village to protect our boundries ??... In March of 2008 the voters will have the oportunity to elect 2 village trustees and remove the 2 village idiots who are now in office ......then the next step is to remove the mayor who is up for re-election in 2009 and then remove the village attorney who is leading the village of Woodbury down a path of distruction .....

Anonymous said...

I think we can add the Mayor of Woodbury to this definition! The dumb blonde is a popular-culture stereotype applied to blonde-haired women. The archetypical "dumb blonde", while attractive and popular, lacks both common street-sense and academic intelligence, often to a comedic level.
Numerous actresses have played characters labelled as "dumb blondes", famously including Marilyn Monroe, Suzanne Somers (primarily for her role as Chrissy Snow on Three's Company), and Goldie Hawn (for her persona on the variety show Laugh-In). Country music chanteuse Dolly Parton, aware of this occasional characterization of her, addressed it in her 1967 hit Dumb Blonde (though Parton's lyrics challenged the stereotype, stating "...just because I'm blonde, don't think I'm dumb 'cause this dumb blond ain't nobody's fool..."). Also, saying she was not offended by "all the dumb-blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb. I'm also not blond."[1] More recently, Paris Hilton has been characterized as a dumb blonde due to her public persona, which is portrayed by popular culture as promiscuous and self-absorbed, and Jessica Simpson has been seen as one due primarily to her behavior on her TV series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

Hey stupid stupid stupid
how can a town vote for a group of special interest people who were against the village in the first place. well woodbury hope you all are happy!!!!

Anonymous said...

AHA!

Do you see what is happening here?
Ralph and his buddies are paving the way for them to get elected to the village board. They will probably say something like: "See if you elected us this would never have happened"
And they would be right, because they would have handed Woodbury over to KJ by now.

Make sure that you get the whole story and please don't make your important voting decisions because of what you read on a blog!

Dont forget that the Preservation Party led by Ralph Caruso LIED to you.

Watch for the return of Raplh probably with another party name.

Watch out for the wolf in sheeps clothing

Anonymous said...

Shame Shame Shame on the whole village board.
I supported all of you and you have let me down.
I do not care if you spend my hard earned tax dollars to fight this in court. Even if the end result is not what we want, I would still respect the fact that you fought against and illegal subdivision of land, and then the illegal erection of water tanks on that property.

I have no problem with the water tanks going on Brach's property.
The problem I have is the leadership of KJ ignores all laws that would prohibit them from getting what they want and they have now manipulated our village board and that stupid attorney Golden into signing some intermunicipal agreement.
How long before you think they will violate the agreement? When they do is the Village Board going to tell us they will not fight it because they don't want to spend the money on litigation???????????

Anonymous said...

If the mayor changed her hair color, would you idiots lay off her! give her a break, it's been less then a year.

Anonymous said...

Which two trustees are up for election?

Anonymous said...

This blog sure makes for some great laughs. I can just imagine Don,Ralph,Bob,Carol,Ted & Alice (or anyone who feels in the slightest that they've been "wronged"), feverishly typing in their stupid comments, drooling at the thought that they are turning the residents of Woodbury against the Village board, paving the way to try and get themselves elected into those positions!! What Morons!

And then to throw in the whole blonde thing in. Figures you'd go down that path, you imbeciles.

I for one am glad that the current Village board does not subscribe to the wishes of those special interest groups who believe they are responsible for getting them elected, and I am even happier that they would seek the advice of the legal community in dealing with KJ!! Too often municipal officials go off half-cocked about what they "think" they can do and say, and end up in a legal suit that they have to pay $$$$$$$ for. I'm surious as to what the TOWN's attorney said about all this?

Anonymous said...

We all know Big John weighed in using his "My View", but how do the other Town board members and their counsel feel? Realistically, is there any way to stop KJ?

Anonymous said...

You are right! the village board members don't subscribe to special interests, only personal interests!

Anonymous said...

The last poster reinforces the definition of ignorant jerk. What the hell are the Village board members gaining? They're trying to make responsible, cost effective decisions based on LAW and HISTORY, not on the whims of people like the Preservationists who want us all to live in fear!!

Anonymous said...

TO ALL OF YOU WHO BELIEVE THAT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE FOUGHT WITH ALL OF THE MIGHT OF OUR TAX DOLLARS: I REMEMBER THIS TYPE OF BELIEFIN ACTION A FEW YEARS AGO, WHEN JOHN BURKE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA TO FIGHT COSIMOS, LUCKY FOR ALL OF US THAT WHEN THE COURTS ORDERED WOODBURY TO PAY OVER 300,00O TO CITERA, HE DID THE HONORABLE THING AND REFUSED TO TAKE THE MONEY, WISHING ONLY TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR. ALL OF YOUR GREAT IDEAS, BATTLE PLANS AND MY VIEWS ARE GOING TO LEAD US ALL DOWN THE ROAD TO GREAT BIG FEDERAL LAWSUIT. WAKE UP, GROW UP AND LET'S TRY DIPLOMACY FOR ONCE, EVERYONE ALWAYS WANTS LITIGATION. GREAT IDEA, BUT WHO IS SUPPOSED TO PAY FOR ALL THESE LEGAL BATTLES? MY TAXES ARE HIGH ENOUGH THANKS. AND IN TYPICAL FASHION THE TOWN BOARD WILL NOW BLAME ALL OF THIS ON THE VILLAGE, EVEN THOUGH THE FIRST ACTIONS FOR THESE WATER TANKS WERE TAKEN WELL BEFORE IT WAS THE VILLAGES ISSUE. AND AS FOR THE POSTER TALKING ABOUT SOMEONES UNBORN CHILD, THAT JUST SHOWS THAT YOU ARE A CLASSLESS, NAMELESS COWARD. PROBABLY JUST LIKE YOUR DADDY.

Anonymous said...

DITTO!!! Rarely are things black and white...there has to be room for compromise. Those in successful government realize when you need to bend and when you need to dig your heels in- THANK YOU Village Board for UNDERSTANDING!! For being in your infancy, you show great tenacity and wisdom!!

Anonymous said...

Yo Slick, that Cosimo fight was on when Shirley was in office not John.

As for those attempting the help the village people dodge those bullets. Forget it. You're only reinforcing their inability to properly run Woodbury. Those that laud them in heeding "advise" from legal should take off the rose colored glasses. For this board, advise equates to dictation. They have proven and probably continue to prove that they will blindly follow like lemmings on said "legal advise". Instead of putting their proverbial tails between their legs and running away like the cowardly dogs that they are, they should show some teeth and leadership if they want to gain the respect of the people again {if they ever had it}.

Last note; Burke's letter to the paper was signed by him but, according to my sources, the whole board was behind it and in favor of it.

The Village has certainly shown their true colors....YELLOW

Anonymous said...

what are you saying!!

ha ha ha you all who voted for these individuals on the village board are getting exactly what you deserve... just stay bent over and enjoy !!!!

According to these posts, Ralph is one powerful man!! Everything that happens in Woodbury is his doing. Amazing, isn't it? I'm curious how he got the village board to ok the kj towers.

Anonymous said...

you guys who voted for the current village people got what you voted for--they promised to keep everything the same and they have. they enforce nothing, disregard the peoples wishes, and give permission for the water towers. now that they know they have a weak village board, i bet that kj will have annexation papers in by next week. and what a precedent the village has now set. if they can't afford towers, how will they ever fight annexation.

Anonymous said...

anyone know if the town board agrees with the village board? or do they sleep together, too?

Anonymous said...

Who is the pieman?????

Anonymous said...

What color will the tanks be?

Anonymous said...

Okay, if it will make you happy, Bush and Ralph must go!!!

Anonymous said...

Hey Neil say what do you have so say for yourself now?

Anonymous said...

But who is Shirley???? I must know now!!!!

Anonymous said...

Sticks and stones boys and girls!! Really now, grow up. All you posters who "think" you're "in the know", why not print the TRUTH since you "know" so much.

The Village board NEVER said they would fight KJ at ANY cost. They said they would fight ALL attempts at annexation, NOT bankrupt Woodbury over water towers!!

Sounds to me like certain powers that be over at TOWN hall see their control and importance slipping away, and so they're taking this opportunity to sling mud at the Village Board, rather than to try to work with them. Funny how Mr. Burke (aka Chicken Little) ALWAYS runs to the newspaper to state that "the sky is falling", when in reality it's his desperate attempt to shift blame or burden. Well, this time the Village Board isn't listening. Instead, they appear to be ignoring his distraction, choosing instead to take the legal ADVICE, GUIDANCE and CONVENTIONAL WISDOM of educated counsel, weighing whats BEST for ALL of the taxpayers, and ACTING RESPONSIBLY!!

Kudos to each and every member of the Village Board, and to Mr. Golden! Please continue to ignore the naysayers, and those who put themselves on their own pedestals of wax...sooner or later they will tumble from their own hot air!

This village is back to square one. We have people in office in our village government who really don't want to be there and a mayor who clearly makes decisions like Sheila. Is this the Twight Zone or The Wizzard of Oz. I did'nt vote for all of you but I did try to give you a chance but the fact is you will let anyone walk all over you. Did you people even discuss it with the Town Board ?

Only in Woodbury......

County, KJ spar over tank project

By Chris McKenna
October 12, 2007

Times Herald-Record
Woodbury — Here's the latest episode in the running saga about two Kiryas Joel water storage tanks — Orange County's version of the "Fawlty Towers" TV series.
Just as the village has settled a dispute with neighboring Woodbury over the tanks, another controversy has surfaced over the bulldozing of trees and a stone wall on 2/10 of an acre of adjacent, county-owned land.
County workers discovered last week that the excavators who cleared a place for the tanks had strayed into the edge of the county's Gonzaga property, a vast tract of mostly undeveloped parkland.
The county attorney sent the village a letter demanding the disturbed area be restored to its original condition.
But a county lawmaker who's irked about Kiryas Joel's second recent encroachment on county land is raising the heat, calling the latest slip an "abomination" that deserves a more serious penalty.
"You cannot bring back trees that have been there so long," Frank Fornario, R-C-Blooming Grove, said yesterday. "You cannot bring back a stone wall."
Kiryas Joel Administrator Gedalye Szegedin calls it a minor accident.
"There definitely was no intentional encroachment," he said. "There's no fence there, so every worker doesn't know where the property line ends and begins."
He said the village would "clean and remedy" the site, though what shape that will take is unclear.
The drama began last year with Kiryas Joel asking permission to build the tanks on a corner of the Gonzaga property. They will hold water for a nearly completed women's convalescence center and scores of new condominiums. County lawmakers refused, saying parkland must remain undisturbed.
So Kiryas Joel bought an adjacent piece of Woodbury land, only to be warned that it would need Woodbury Planning Board approval. Woodbury officials went ballistic when the tanks began going up a few weeks ago without their input.
Woodbury officials approved a resolution Tuesday allowing them to inspect the site and choose a paint color for the tanks. Bowing to concerns about scarce ground water, Kiryas Joel agreed not to drill wells on the property or buy water from an adjoining landowner.
The Gonzaga infraction also follows a recent encroachment in Monroe, where the village started burying a pipe under a future leg of the Heritage Trail without county permission.

Hey sissy mary's -

PINK sounds like a good color for the towers

Anonymous said...

Why the hell does the Village Board have to consult with the Town Board??? It's out of the Town Board's hands now whether they like it or not, and whether they agree with it or not.

The Village Board is made up of mature ADULTS- not self-serving whiners. They actually do their homework and consider all options, rather than just play into KJ's hands with knee-jerk reactions like Mr. Burke so often does.

As far as the "Sissy Mary" remark, try looking in the mirror! It takes alot of courage to hold office in Woodbury where you have to take constant unwarranted abuse from the likes of the Preservationists and company who immediately spew lies and venom when they can't get their own way (which for the most part would be disasterous for Woodbury each and every time!!)

Carry on Village Board- you're doing a great job!

Anonymous said...

Que sera, sera...can we get off this subject already??? So, back to Town elections...who is Carlton Levine? Does he really exist? Seen Burke and Haviland around, but no Levine. Is he a figment of the Democrats' imagination?? How does he really expect to be elected if he doesn't attend Town/Village/ Planning/Zoning Board meetings? Does he even know what's going on in Woodbury? The Dems don't even have any signs out...or are the Dems secretly backing Aronowitz and McNeill??

Anonymous said...

The last two blogger are either village board members or their spouses. Forget it you two. You f***ed up. Now take it like the dogs you are.

Anonymous said...

WRONG again...I am neither, and of NO relation. And speaking of dogs, what breed are you, MUTT??

I guess it's damn tough to swallow that you don't have the persuasive powers that you morons think you have, and the residents actual DO like, respect and agree with the Village Board and how they're handling matters. Unlike you uneducated toads, they chart a course, rely on expertise other than themselves if necessary, and decide in a thorough and united way how to run the Village...they don't need to run off to the papers, post on this blog or spread rumours to get the job done. Perhaps you should take a lesson!

Anonymous said...

Let the record show that Neil and Robin gave the keys to Woodbury away not Ralph.

Anonymous said...

Neil who?

Anonymous said...

Like I said before...this nonsense makes for some great laughs!

Anonymous said...

Hear the one about Ralph and friends?

Anonymous said...

The sad shame in all of this is that there will forever be those who think they know-it-all and who think they have the right to control government. If you think you can do any better, go get elected! Oh that's right, some of you have already tried and gotten kicked to the curb! The rest of you are just mad because you've lost your power!

Anonymous said...

Darn, you gave the keys away and NOT Ralph...next time give him away would you!!

Anonymous said...

Yes the village has charted a course...straight off a cliff. Nice try bucco. Nobody is buying it.

Anonymous said...

By reading the posts on this blog, I see that KJ has accomplished a very worthwhile(for them) goal. They have effectively divided (and will now try to conquer) the Village and Town of Woodbury. How about the residents of Woodbury working together instead of slinging mud? Try it; you might like the results.

Anonymous said...

I don't think dissolving the village is the answer. The village needs to keep its promises. Nothing worth fighting for is cheap. Giving in will be more expensive in the long run.

Anonymous said...

All you people who are demanding a fight, do you have any idea, or real information as to the actual cost? What are you basing your demands on? If a fight against these towers bankrupts the Village, where are the funds supposed to come from to fight annexation now that a pipeline is imminent? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, rather I'm just trying to understand where you're coming from. I've been told that the Village board actually consulted several legal experts to weigh their options (not just the demands of a few loudmouths) and the resulting verdict was that at this juncture, and with certain expectations of what the future might bring, that it was in the RESIDNETS best interest to move forward this way.

Unless all of you who are so quick to sling mud at the Village Board members want to ante up, and create some kind of endless super fund of money (the way KJ seems to do), then I suggest you try to understand the process and be part of the solution instead of a painful thorn in all of our backsides!

Anonymous said...

"pain in OUR backsides" if this is any example of how you are going to run the village,, I hope your backside is strong because you seem ready to do a lot of laying down for KJ yes, keep on listening to Swiller he really knows what is best for woodbury GOD HELP US.....

Hey Swiller, here's an idea, if you so smart and you know so much, why don't you run for office! yeah right,, didn't think so, it's so much easier for you to hide behind your computer, whisper in everyone ear, plat all sides and spread bull all over town/village and this blog.. get a life loser!!!

The water towers were erected on the Village Boards watch. Stop trying to blame everyone else.
Who are these mysterious members of the public the village board consulted with? Can we have some names besides your spouses.

I have nothing against the village or town board, but please stop blaming one another for everything that goes wrong.

Now that the village has taken over zoning they need to except the responsibility for what comes with it. You are elected officials that answer to us John Q citizen. When the village takes the water and sewer you will inherit all the problems that go with it.

All members of the Town and Village boards are political, so stop saying your not. One would like to think of themselves as just a public servant, but you gave that up the minute you ran for office and won. Sorry politicians watch what you wish for.

It seems like the Town dropped the ball a year ago when they didn't keep an eye on Mr. Brach and K.J. when they learned that K.J. purchased the land. The Village never changed the zoning as one of you stated. One tank is already there according to the THRecord...I have never know the Town Building inspector to tell a homeowner to tear down there deck once it is built.
All that usually occurs is the individual applies for a building permit and everything "goes away".
At the very least, Gary will be able to inspect these tanks "forever".
