The Rose Is Off The Bloom

Bart Bloom has told the people of Woodbury that they have to form a village.

He's told us that he's part of a committee to get us to do that.

He's told us -INCORRECTLY- that it will stop annexation.

What he hasn't told us is that while he is pushing us to permanently change our town HE'S GOT HIS OWN HOUSE ON THE MARKET!

Can anybody say CHUTZPAH!

How dare this guy tell us what's best for us but not mention that at the very same time he's packing to leave?

While he explains that to us, why doesn't he also tell us who the hell is on this secret committee of his?

Gee Bart, it seems that you really are in a position to talk about disinformation.

I think the best thing for all of us against the village, is the two letters to the editor in todays Photo News. Seeing the two names siding with the Village should be enough to turn everyone else against it. Gee, those are two names I would want to be connected to something I was in favor of.............NOT!!!

So Colleen C. was OK when she was on your side for the WP-3 vote, but now that she's for the village creation she's taboo?

And Bloom's a bad guy for selling his house but it's OK for Mindy P. to espouse her views against the village while selling her house? I guess someone can say Chutzpah!

Such duplicity.

To the editor:

I believe that by voting for the Village of Woodbury you are providing the best defense against the inevitable changes that will most likely occur. As a former councilwoman, I strongly supported the five local laws recently reenacted. This was the first step towards maintaining our current style of housing.

The second step is to incorporate as a single village. By voting yes for the current incorporation, you minimize the impact of future zoning and boundary changes to the territory we live in.

A perfect example is Kiryas Joel. Their own incorporation allowed them the ability to build as they chose without complying with Monroe’s zoning. They built according to their own standards.

KJ is up front about their need for high density housing. They need additional lands to continue to grow. It is very likely that they will either attempt to annex those lands into their existing village. If they can’t, they may choose to create another village in Woodbury.

I believe if KJ created a village within Woodbury, you would quickly see other villages popping up throughout Woodbury. Highland Mills, close to KJ “2,” would most like choose to create its own village to prevent further encroachment. Central Valley may then decide they need to create their own village to protect their interests.

Not only would we now have three to four villages throughout Woodbury, only certain villages would contain the tax ratables. Most of the business district would be centralized in Central Valley, where most of the money would be. How would this impact the taxes of the other newly formed villages? What would they have for revenue?

The best way to prevent this dissection is to vote yes for the current village proposal on Aug. 10. This village would prevent any future villages from popping up because you cannot create a new village within an existing village. This proposal would allow all the revenue to continue to be shared equally by all. It would be closest scenario to maintaining what we currently have.

While it is truly unfortunate that we are faced with this dilemma, faced with it we are. To sit back and do nothing is to allow forces beyond our control to control us. Working out the details of how a single village would operate within the Town of Woodbury is a heck of a lot easier than three to four villages vying for their piece of the pie. Oh, and let’s not forget that the village with the most inhabitants would control the vote. Just look at Monroe.

We need to be proactive and seize our own destiny. We can do that by voting yes for the village incorporation on Aug. 10.

Selling, for ME, does not mean leaving...
First... I will be in my present home for AT LEAST 2 more years..and then, I have NO intention of leaving M-W...maybe forever! My kids will proudly graduate from our very fine school system. Why not ask before making assumptions?
Can Bloom say the same?...let's ask him.

Who sells their house and lives there for two years. Are you kidding me you are on the KJ payroll and a sellout!!!!!! How dare you get up at meetings and say anything when you sold your house to them.

Mindy P. and Iris, if it was so honorable that you sold your house to KJ then why was it such a secret. how come you didn't want anyone to know? Of course, you are going to stay in the town of woodbury, they are paying your rent. to me, that is an indirect payoff. so what's the payoff for? why would you be against a village created by the people of woodbury? Is it that you would rather see a village created by your landlord? Please don't say that we would have a double layer of government. If you get your way, you will wind up having a bunch of little villages with a bunch of layers of gov't. Tell me then what will happen to the PD, FD and town employees when there are a bunch of villages. Will KJ's village support woodbury PD or FD. DOn't they already have their own FD. Will Highland Mills village support Woodbury PD when most of the calls are in central valley. Come on, your vision is to destroy this town as you wave goodbuy on your horse.

Gee Bart,
Is that you? Or a pal (names like Ralph, Don and Bob come to mind)? I guess it hit a nerve to mention that you are selling AND leaving town.

And if what you have to say is so honorable, why keep your idenity a secret?

Sorry, I do believe that I meant "Identity."

So...
Who said that Colleen isn't OK? She's entitled to her opinion and other people are entitled to theirs. The difference is in the lengths that certain people will go to get their own way. Ralph, Don, Bart Bloom and company knowing lie and misinform to get their way. Colleen is stating her opinion but not purposely lying to everyone to get support for her views; however wrong she may be.

The typical Ralph-Don tactic is to start the name calling to cloud the issue. The issue is this: a village is a bad idea.

Pay my rent...I wish! And who are you not having enough guts to sign your name as you libel me? I have not kept anything a secret and it is none of your business who I sell to..IF and WHEN I sell. I am on no one's payroll and I am an honorable person. As of this email I will not respond to you again until you have the honesty to use you name... as I do!

Good for you Mindy! Stick to your guns!
