Swiller Not In Paper, Bias Cited

Jonathan Swiller is not in today's Times Herald Record. When UB reached veteran cub reporter Chris McKenna in his penthouse office atop the THR Orange South Tower in Gonzaga Park the rumpled 32 year-old responded with "But he didn't do anything yesterday."

How often are they going to trot out that lame excuse?

Robert Lawrence was contacted for comment by famed medium Jonathan Edward, and the bon vivant real estate agent and freelance wrestler let loose with a blast at the "Nazi rag" which "refuses to provide any coverage to any Jew anywhere, even part time residents!"

In reaction, Bob Quinn, editor of the Photo News has urged a countywide boycott of the Record ("except for my wife's column").

KJ's constables might get lights

By Chris McKenna
Times Herald-Record
cmckenna@th-record.com
Kiryas Joel - One unanswered question about the constables who patrol this village and control crowds is whether their vehicles may use flashing red lights and sirens when racing to calls.

Village officials saw no problem when they outfitted five Chevy Impalas and a Jeep Cherokee as though they were police cars. But questions by the state police and a legal opinion from the state Attorney General's Office has led to legislation in Albany this year that would ensure Kiryas Joel's constables can use their lights and sirens.

State troopers still patrol this low-crime Hasidic community, but as the population has climbed, village officials have increasingly relied upon their own constables, who are not Orthodox Jews, to patrol overnight, during the Sabbath and on Jewish holidays.

Many, if not all, are trained as peace officers, a designation below that of a police officer.

The Attorney General's Office issued an informal opinion in February 2005 telling officials in Brocton, a village of 1,500 on the southwestern tip of New York, that state law wouldn't allow its peace officers to operate flashing lights and sirens on their vehicles.

Because of that opinion and state police questions, Kiryas Joel officials asked their representatives in Albany - Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt, R-Greenwood Lake, and Sen. William Larkin, R-Cornwall-on-Hudson - to introduce a one-paragraph bill declaring that Kiryas Joel's public safety officers could use flashing lights and sirens.

Committees were reviewing their legislation this year when the session expired. It could be taken up again when lawmakers return to Albany, although Kiryas Joel Administrator Gedalye Szegedin said it's unnecessary because the village attorney has persuaded the state police that existing law already permits the lights and sirens.

The state police couldn't confirm that resolution yesterday. Maj. Edward Raso, the Troop F commander in Middletown, said he believes police mainly wanted the constables to be trained and that their concern has now been satisfied.

My comments....
Does anybody see this as "side-stepping" the laws that other municipalities MUST abide by? Why does KJ ALWAYS get to bend or simply ignore the rules? Is their Village any different from any other municipality in the state of NY???? I just don't get it???

You can't blame KJ because they have a very dilligent State Senator named Bill Larkin fighting for them. It's just Woodbury's and Monroe's bad luck that due to a fluke in the drawing of the State Senatorial districts we never got a state senator to represent us.

I just want to know if UB made the call? Come on Uncle...get it from the horse's a**, I mean mouth. Did JK really post, or is it someone else trying to drag him back into this debate? If he did post, ask him what the "interesting news" on the Stainton property was...pretty please?!?!?

Re: the Gonzaga land, I find it interesting that Gedalye Szegedin states that KJ may have to "take the property by eminent domain". Perhaps he needs to look up the definition before he starts throwing out such powerful nouns. Since Gonzaga is no longer private property, I doubt it qualifies, and most importantly, there is usually compensation involved. I highly doubt KJ will pay for anything, however I guess "take" is the operative word here.

HEY ANONYMOUS; if you are so interested why dont you call?

Thanks for the cover Unc.

As to Szegedin's threat of invoking eminent domain, it is meaningless. Eminent domain can't be applied by a municipality to lands outside its borders. That the land in question is county-owned makes it even more ridiculous.

One has to wonder why Szegedin would use such empty, bullying threats. Is he just a loud-mouthed fool? Is he posturing for the people within the village? Or does he intentionally want to stir up an angry reaction which he believes he can use for his own ends?

The invitation to call was extended to the Uncle, and therefore it would be terribly rude for anyone else to approach Mr. Kelemen, or Mr. Cornell for that matter!

KJ had a place for the water towers in their own village but chose to level a Mt. and put large 4 story apartment buildings there instead. See for yourself on 7 Springs Rd. just as you round the sharp curve by the old jehova witness meeting hall. They gambled, overdeveloped their land and lost or did they this is not over yet.

Actually, the Uncle has more then once mentioned his email address cuzzincookie@hotmail.com. If
someone wishes to contact the Uncle personally, that's the way to do it.
Anything posted here is for the general public and so you should all feel free to contact Mr. Keleman at his business: 928-7274

Invitation was extended BY WHO? AN ANONYMOUS POSTER ON A WEBSITE!! YOU ARE AN IDIOT!
I would like to extend an invitation for Uncle Betty to contact the Town regarding minutes to the last meeting. Does this now mean that nobody else can now do it because the invitation was to the Uncle? Moron!!!

I din't say it was illegal, or that no one else could, I simply said that IF it were truly Mr. Kelemen who posted (and I realize that's a big IF), he addressed his comments to UB, and therefore it should be UB who returns the call.

If you're 100% sure it wasn't Mr. Kelemen who posted, then why don't YOU go ahead and make the call??? Ask him for youself and kindly report back to all of us "morons" who believe that it really was Mr. Kelemen who posted. Afterall, he was a board member who really cared about the Town.

ILLEGAL? who said anything about Illegal? You really are a MORON? And do you really think that you can goad the uncle into doing anything?

The Uncle is right, anything here is for the public and the people who post here do not answer to you, you IDIOT! I can just see it now: "OK I made the call and this is what he said....Do you want me to do anything else MR/MRS anonymous poster?" DUH!!!

So, you are a close confidant of Mr. Keleman, then why don't YOU tell us if it was He who posted.
Why not? because you are really and truly a mentially deficient MORON and could be someone as stupid as Don S. the ankle-biter.

Now that would be interesting, John Kellman and Don Seibold as buddies.....

After reading the recent posts, especially concerning John Kelemen, I find it amusing that a) JK himself would post, b) someone else would even think of posting as JK, c) someone else would defend JK, and finally, d) that there is actually an argument going on about him! Stick to the point that was being made...did the planning board really overlook something? Obviously, whoever posted, whether JK or not, either knows something or thinks they know something. If that's the case, why not let the cat out of the bag and let the viewing public in on what you perceive was a planning board goof?

Well I know something, here is the real story: the members of the planning board at the time were actual witches in a real coven! Their planning board meetings were a cover for the witches rites that they conducted in secret after the PB meetings where they sacrificed developers at the stake.

Ah yes, now you are going to resort to anonymous accusations!

You really are morons.
