Oh how I miss $3.00 a gallon gasoline!

According to gasprices.com, the lowest current price in the Monroe area is $3.14.

And the people cry out "why doesn’t the government do something?"

They forget. The government did do something. They set a national energy policy. Don’t you remember?

Way back in the Spring of 2001 Vice President Cheney headed up a task force that set the country’s energy policy.

Representatives of all the gas and oil companies took part.

And do you know what was discussed?

No.

You don’t.

That’s classified.

But we do know that George Bush was prepared for a surge in gas prices. He discussed that before the 2000 election. He had a plan.

"In 2000, when he was seeking the Republican nomination for president and oil was nearing $28 a barrel, Bush criticized the Clinton administration for high fuel prices and said the president must ‘jawbone’ oil producing nations and persuade them to drop rates."
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,154734,00.html

So much for jawbones.

But not to worry. Congress has a plan too. They want to give each and every one of us $100.

Here’s how Washington works. First Congress takes money from corporations and does what the corporations want. Then, if we get unhappy, they take our tax dollars and try to bribe us with our own money.

Neat.

Part of the same bill would open the Alaska Oil Reserve. All 5 months worth.

And guess where that Alaskan oil would go.

Certainly the same place all other Alaskan oil goes. Onto tankers headed to Japan and China.

Meanwhile the Democrats plan is almost as screwy. They want to cut the 18 and a half cents a gallon federal tax on gas that goes to keeping our highways from falling apart.

And when we have to rebuild those highways we get to remember that maintaining is cheaper than replacing.

And the Bush administration has proposed tripling the tax exemption that applies to Hummers but not to compacts.

Yay for us!

A6286—THE BRODSKY BILL -- WILL PROTECT SUCCESSFUL SCHOOLS
Under current New York State education department policy all public school children must pass 5 high stakes tests in order to graduate from high school.

This means that even if a child has excellent grades, perfect attendance and teacher recommendations, failing one of 5 tests by just a single point means that that student will not graduate.

The State’s high stakes testing policy has produced disastrous results:

• the schools have become test prep factories and standards have been lowered
• dropout rates have soared and fewer and fewer students are graduating

* New York State is ranked 45th IN THE NATION with respect to the number of students who graduate (only 5 other states are worse)

* New York State is last in the nation with respect to the number of Black and Hispanic students who graduate 28 schools in New York State - with very high standards - rely on a much more effective way to assess students and determine whether they are ready for college or the world of work. These schools do not use high stakes tests. They rely instead on multiple measures recommended by dozens of national organizations and assessment experts. They require students to demon-strate what they know and can do (with portfolios, tests, presentations, and oral defenses).

THESE SCHOOLS BEAT ALL THE ODDS. With a more challenged population than the city as a whole these schools:

• Send over 85% go on to college (vs. 62% citywide)
• Retain students: have dropout rates of 9.9% vs.19.3% citywide.
• Send most students to 4 year colleges.
• Have students who succeed in college and earn a higher than average GPA.
• A6286, THE BRODSKY BILL, will protect these successful schools by allowing them to continue educating our children by using multiple assessments instead of a single high-stakes test.
• Just as it did in the last session, the State Senate will pass a bill to protect these schools. Now the State Assembly must do the same. There must be no partisanship when our children’s future is at stake!

THE BRODSKY BILL MUST BE PASSED BY JUNE OR THESE EFFECTIVE SCHOOLS WILL BE FORCED TO GIVE UP THEIR METHOD OF TEACHING AND ASSESSING.

DO NOT ALLOW OUR SCHOOLS TO BECOME TEST PREP FACTORIES

As I see it, Brodsky is a businessman. His ultimate goal is neither to hurt the town nor help, but to build and sell houses and make a profit.
Good businessmen (and I guess he is one) must know that a satisfied customer is a good thing and so, to that degree, it's in his interest to help the town.

His purchase of the Roselawn Inn certainly helped the town.

And, I expect that the Town Board, in it's horse-trading with him, is also getting concessions that help the town.

swiller

To drink Vodka, red wine, grain alcohol, or anything that smells of spirits greedily or grossly....

The swilling bitch threw 4 litres of Vodka down her neck in the course of a weekend.

Let's see

Swiller proves that Ralph, Donnie and the rest lie and manipulate people and put Woodbury in danger.

Ralph points out that Swiller's name is the same as a word for a heavy drinker.

Gee, I guess that Ralph wins that debate.

Good going Ralphie!
