To Resign or Not?

The new Village Board members take office in early April.

Mike's term on the Town Board is up this November.

If Mike resigns then John, Bo and Carlton will handpick his replacement. If he stays on, it will be up to the voters.

There is no law against his holding both positions, but should he?

What do you folks think?

Attorney general states that is a no-no. He must resign one of the positions.

With that crew it would be better if he stayed!!

And if he takes the Mayor's salary as stated previously, no salary from the Town, does he get the health insurance from the Town? Not bad--he gets a raise. Cut duplicative costs?

Count me as one who hopes he stays on the Town Board until his term expires.

I believe the local bylaws state that you can't hold two elected positions at the sametime within the same community boundaries.

What's that about???????

Doesn't Gerri Gianzero have a say on this too?

Oh, I get it now.........

Please cite any AG opinions. There are NO "local by laws" If there is any law on this matter it would be a state one. I know there are quirks in many of the two hats laws that allow village office holders to hold two posts. Mayor D'Onofrio was Highland Falls Mayor and Highlands Supervisor for a time. County Legislator Steve Brescia is also Mayor of Montgomery Village. In the end it probably is legal for Mike to continue as a Town Board member while being Mayor. The only issue is would it be ethical to do so. He also promised to resign during the campaign. Starting your term by breaking a campaign promise is usually not a good idea.

Power and control baby!

Gerri is only one vote and on her own.

I give her alot of credit. She has survived all these years through all the political bullshit, rumors and health problems and still is one of the only shining stars in this mess.

I for one will hate to see her go. Wonder who will come out of the woodwork to run for her and Queenan's seat.

I hope it's new blood and not the same old same old or past supervisor's or councilpersons.

Fasten your seatbelts........

If he's going to start on the coterminous initiative right away, then it would stand to reason that he should give up his Town Board seat. It doesn't seem quite ethical for him to be making a decision for the Town and the Village about a single idea. (Let's just see if politics is going to once again overshadow the work of the people.)

I second that...we definitely need some new blood in there. I also second the notion in hoping that Mike stays on the TB until his term ends.

Mike should stay..

Ah yes, we should all listen to the one who took the money and ran!

Mike's term as a member of the Town Board expires this year. If elected Mayor, Mike will not seek re-election in November. Mike will resign as a member of the Town Board as soon as he ensures that a fair and orderly transition has taken place.

This is from the Common Sense website. What does Mike consider as "fair and orderly"???

Anonymous said...

Fair and orderly should be ensuring that the next councilman is elected by the people, not the TB.

TALK ABOIT DOUBLE TALK. No matter how hard I try to have faith in the people we elect, it usually turns out a disappointment. Both locally and nationally. I am keeping my fingers crossed that 1/ Mike resigns, 2/ they immediately begin to televise the meeting and 3/ they immediately make application for coterminous village.

For the record, Mike Queenan does not have health insurance from the Town and the Village does not offer coverage to its elected officials as none are considered full time.

It's easy to find out by checking Town and Village records and minutes.

On principal, I do not feel that the same person should have a vote on the Town Board and another on the Village Board.

However, it is clear that Burke and his Democratic majority who won by cheating and lying, hold the majority votes on the Town Board and will likely pick one of their crew. That person could come from the Preservation Party, but all of those people are registered in another party---Republican, Democrat or Conservative. But whoever it is, Caruso will surely have a say in the choice.

Just hope people remember in the fall who filled Queenan's seat and that that person was selected by a Town Board majority who had to cheat to win their seats on the Board.

"Fair and orderly" means its my way or the high way. He is just not a TEAM kind of person. Time will tell.

It is very interesting that someone out there is calling the possibility of Mike staying on the town board for a few months "unethical". From what I have seen during this campaign and on this site, those very people did little to display ethical behavior. Very interesting that they are throwing that term out now.

It is not illegal, nor is it unethical for Mike to stay on the town board. In fact, it would be better for the people that he stay till the end of his term and it might result in better communication between the town and the village, something that is lacking now.

Is it ethical for John, Bo and Carlton to appoint someone? because you know they are not going to include Gerri in this.

And why WHY? would you want some Burke, Carlton Levine, Manny Mangual appointee to run as an incumbent?

There are alot of plain old vicious, stupid and petty people in Woodbury. They are very sad excuses for human beings.

Mike and his team just got elected and already the nastiness against them starts. What happened to: "for the good of the village/town"?

Mike, DON'T RESIGN!!! We can't even begin to imagine who they would pick!!!!!

To our current Mayor Beran-weeks. You said at the debate that there were ablolutely no duplication of services since the the Village was formed. And that is what made me not vote for you. Tell me Madam Mayor. Am I not now paying for 10 people to run a Town that 5 were runnung? Am I not paying for an extra Clerk. An extra Attorney, an extra engineer, and extra tax collector? Am I the only ome who sees this? Very stupid of you.
I hope the new Mayor will remember what he said and consolidate the governments into one. I don't care which one, but i'm tired of paying for all these people to do a job one entity can do.

Stephanie obviously meant that there was no duplication of services such as roads, water, etc.

As to the extra layer of government, the ones to blame for that are the Preservationists who frightened us into creating the village. Stephanie had nothing to do with that.

You act real tough while anonymous. Cute, picking fights on someone else's "idiotic" blog, which you keep coming back to anyway. Makes you look real manly- almost as tough as a 6th grader, even.
