Meet The New Guys

One week to go and then we get to see the Town Board's brand new members. The best that Caruso could buy.

So, set aside the date - Thursday, January 3rd, 7:30 PM.

Oh boy!

Uncle Betty has way too much time on his (her) hands. Instead of blogging, why not do something constructive?

In the land where no one cared,
It is where evil fared,
The people would cry out,
and give a big shout,
Only in response to merde!

In matters that affect us all,
It is amazing no one would hear the call,
Busy they may be,
but what of responsibility?
Oh wait, Hear the sound of the fall!

This village is also a town,
and that sometimes brings a frown,
to a taxpayer here and there,
as to whether it is fair,
But no worries! Ralph wears the crown!!!

Hey let's meet the new guys,
let us teach them not to despise,
the people who are obviously more wise,
teach them to listen to the peoples cries!

Burke, Carlton and little Bo Peep,
I wonder how well you sleep,
Is it a slumber really deep,
Or are you kept awake with the knowledge you keep?

Just how proud of winning can you be?
When it was achieved with such malady?
Can you continue with this so called victory?
Can you continue on Ralph's bended knee?

Negativity? What negativity? I am POSITIVE that this town government is now defective, evil and corrupt!

I wonder what the new guys must tell their children? "Don't worry son, it's OK to cheat and steal when it benefits YOU!?!?!" "Lying is OK dear, but only when it helps you win!?!?!" "As long as the big guy takes responsibility, we did nothing wrong!?!?!?"

Why does everyone have such a hard time realizing how the supervisor is? Doesn't anyone remember what he did at Town Board meetings when he was just a citizen? Reading the dunkin donuts menu on camera just to challenge the 5 minute rule. Forcing a lawsuit from Cosimos, that the Town lost and could have cost 300,000 dollars?, but the owners of Cosimos were gracious and told the court that they did not want the money, instead choosing to be good neighbors. Wake up people, we are all on the brink of financial doom, it is just one bad decision away.

That's the problem- we all realize what type of individual he is, and that is why we cannot allow him to just get away with the bad behavior and the decisions based on his and Ralph's agenda.WE all need to continue to stand up and fight for Woodbury!

I just got a notice from my mortgage bank that my Escrow is too low to foot the 2% raise that John gave himself and the board!

I found this on Mike's blog

Thank You Woodbury

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Woodbury for the past four years. I will forever be inspired by the determination and dedication of my fellow Town Council members…as well as grateful to the many people I have met and worked with while in office. I am proud of what we accomplished, proud that, during my term, in many ways, we improved the quality of life in Woodbury. On December 31, 2007 my term ends. Like many of you, I'm looking forward to spending the holidays with family and friends both old and new.

I’m not entirely sure what I'll do after that. However, I do know that I will not fade into the sunset. There is still so much that needs to get done. I like what I saw and heard from the many residents I spoke with before, during and after this election campaign. Their future and the future of Woodbury are worth fighting for and I will always play an active part in that fight.

An old teacher taught me a valuable lesson when he said, “No matter how hard the loss, defeat might serve as well as victory to shape the soul and let the glory out.”
As one door closes another door opens…but first, before I go, I would like to make a few comments about the recent election just to set the record straight:
As you all may know, I'm a results guy, so, no matter the reason, I admit that my campaign fell short of its goal last November. However, I will always remain humbled by everyone that believed in me enough to give me their time, support and precious vote.

In September, at Woodbury Day, my opponents were having difficulties setting up their Committee to Elect Woodbury Democrats tent. I stopped what I was doing to help them. When it was set up we all shook hands, agreeing to run a clean campaign and just stick to the real issues before us.

We did just that until two days before the election.
I was disgusted when I read the flagrant lies contained in a flyer, those same Committee to Elect Woodbury Democrats, handed out in Timber Ridge and Brookside in an attempt to unethically influence the outcome of the election. This flyer had three blatant lies specifically aimed at voters who were also home owners that the Committee knew were extremely upset because they felt victimized by questionable re-assessments the former Tax Assessor authorized.
By stating in the flyer that, "I hired the Tax Assessor, I knew of the plan to increase those assessments and I approved the plan to increase those assessments my opponents confused voters with lies while stealing their votes and destroying my record in the process.

Number 1,
I wasn't even on the Town Board when the Assessor was hired.

Number 2,
By State law, the Town Board has absolutely no say in what the Assessor does and is never asked to approve any of the Assessor’s actions.

Number 3,
My family and I suffered too, as my home was re-assessed by the same Assessor’s questionable methods as well.

Long before anyone thought about the election, The Town Board had many discussions about the Assessor’s term, start dates, duties and the fact that once appointed the Assessor operates independently of the Town Board.

John Burke, the Supervisor, who claims to have brought back open government and accountability, while he does the exact opposite, knew all along just what the role of the Assessor was.

Therefore, I was in shock and disbelief when the Times Herald Record reported that John Burke was the one, secretly, feeding these lies to the Committee to Elect Woodbury Democrats.

We may never know why John Burke, a retired High School Principal, a person who I trusted and respected chose this unprincipled path of lies and character assassination instead of debating the issues openly and honestly. Perhaps it was because he was allowed to run unopposed.

Carlton Levine and Amidee Haviland lll put their names on the flyer. Even if they somehow didn’t know they were spreading lies, which I find hard to believe, shame on them for not checking the facts first. What a disgraceful and tarnished way for both of them to enter public office.

In fact, The Times Herald Record was so appalled, by the whole sordid episode, that their Editorial of November 13, 2007 called for them all to ”…resign and give Woodbury voters a chance to have an honest election.”

The people of Woodbury deserve much better than this from their elected officials.

History has shown us that candidates and their political committees, who willingly use any devious methods necessary to win, will act in their own best interests first instead of the interests of the people they were elected to serve.

Let their conduct and the conduct of others, just like them, operating in Woodbury, serve as a warning to the people of Woodbury to beware and remain vigilant.

As a life long Martial Artist and Instructor of both adults and children, I have always taught that we should live by the Principles of the Black Belt: Respect, Humility, Perseverance, Honestly and Self-control.

We can only hope when these newly elected officials take office they dig deep down inside themselves and develop some of these principles.

No matter what happens…The fighting spirit of what you and I believe in will live on…The spirit…of doing what is right for Woodbury by putting results for residents first and foremost over any self serving partisanship lie filled agenda.

I shall return…

All I want is the truth, if in fact Burke & Co know what the word means.

Hey Unc,
The Hatch Act of 1939 strictly prohibits federal employees political actions for example
"Active federal employees may not be a candidate in a political election in which any candidate represents a political party". My question is, as one Board Member works for the MTA, which is considered a federal agency, how can he run for political office here in Woodbury? Do not federal laws apply here as well?

Anonymous said...

Listen up, here's the deal,
Your town government they did STEAL,
Lies were their tool
They used them to fool,
If you didn't vote then don't squeal!

The previous poster calls for the truth,
I would like to hear it, forsooth!
Instead of the verbal abuse,
They should put efforts to good use,
But this is not so with those who are uncouth!

Here is the info for the Hatch Act. Unfortunately per the last line, it does not have any affect on our corrupt local elections--

Active Federal employees may:

Be a candidate in a political election in which no candidates represent a political party
Register and vote as they choose
Assist in Voter Registration Drives
Express opinions about candidates and issues
Attend fundraisers and contribute money to political organizations and campaigns
Volunteer on a campaign
Recruit volunteers for a political campaign
Participate in activities such as phone banking and precinct walking
Display bumper stickers, lawn signs, and other campaign paraphernalia
Raise money for their union's political action committee from other union members
Run for nonpartisan offices (that is, parties are not listed on the ballot)
Volunteer, run for, and hold an office in a local or state political party

Ya know, ya can't help but thinkin that Big John and the other two just couldn't have acted alone on this flyer thing. So, when you start sniffin around and find that ole Manny Mangual himself has been involved in some pretty nasty stuff up yonder in Newburgh, ya kinda see how the shit travels downstream to Woodbury. Here's just a taste of some of what's been written about him up there... "Mangual was investigated for a couple of sexual herassment complaints and lost a couple of jobs. he fits in well with Sals (Cracolici) team."

For more intrestin stuff on Mangual, go to www.voy.com, hit search and type in his name. Seems most campaigns that dude is involved in up in Newburgh are dirty, dirty, dirty.

And meanwhile, We are still stuck with these guys and after almost two months, Just like we told Swiller, NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE! and it will all pass over!good job putz! keep complaining and writing those important letters, idiot!

Anonymous said...

Dumb!

It is sad how low seemingly decent people will go when they get involved in politics---power, egos, self righteousness. A sense of whatever it takes to win, even cheating. And from seemingly educated people.

What happened to them to drive them to this? Burke, Levine and Haviland all seem to have lost their moral compasses.

Anonymous said...

That's assuming they had them to begin with! But like the previous poster stated, with Mangual at the helm, morality doesn't seem to be part of the equation.

Anonymous said...

Way to re-direct yet again Swiller, idiot!

When I see this picture, I can't help think of the music to the three stooges in my head!

Get out the lube Woodbury!

Anonymous said...

Pardon?

Anonymous said...

I totally disagree with what Burke Levine and Haviland did with that flier. It was a lie and it was dicusting.

That being said. I think Sandy Capriglione and Robin Crouse should be ashamed of themselves for the display they put on in front of those three children in the audience. There will be other meetings and opportunities to express your discust of them. Last night in front of those children was not the time nor place. Shame on you both.

Anonymous said...

You're joking, right??? Burke, Haviland and Levine obviously know NO shame themselves, or they would have had their families leave after they were sworn in. They knew the possibility existed that something unfavorable could be said, just by who was sitting in the audience before the meeting started.

Are you saying their families should be kept in the dark and protected? Do you think those three men gave a second thought to destroying the reputations of Gianzero, McNeill, Queenan & Aronowitz when they did their mass mailings, insinuating that the prior board (minus Mr. Untouchable Burke)was in the developers pockets, or when they distributed their trash flier throughout Timber Ridge? Do you think for one second that Burke, Haviland and Levine took into consideration what their lies would do to the prior board's families?? With your way of thinking, all Burke, Haviland & Levine would need to do is bring their son/daughter to every meeting to keep the public silent.

A remedy to all of this would have been for them to just come clean from the beginning, and to have told the TRUTH. So a BIG SHAME ON THEM!!!
