Name Calling

SO, as things now stand, we have just created the Village of Woodbury.

Only problem, it's kinda been done.

In Oyster Bay there is the Hamlet of Woodbury. Add to that our very own, non-coterminous Town of Woodbury and now the new Village of Woodbury...things are going to get just a tad confusing.

Orange County (the one in New York, as opposed to the one in California or the one in New Jersey or the one - say, did you know that Orange is the most popular county name in America? Honest. There's one Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Lord knows where else) what was I saying? Oh, yeah, Orange County already has the Town of Newburgh and the City of Newburgh, the Town of Monroe and the Village of Monroe ditto for Chester, Goshen. There are the Town and Village of Montgomery - as well as Fort Montgomery. And Warwick(Town and Village)which already gets confused with Walkill and Walden and whathaveyou. We've also got Highland Mills, Highland Falls, Highlands and Highland (well that's Ulster, but close enough).

So, why does the village have to have the same name as the town?

It doesn't!

But what should we call it?

Central Mills?

Highland Valley?

Harriman Junior?

Woodbury Commonwealth?

Newer York City?

Grenitch Village?

Village of the Darned?

Kiryas Ralph?

What say ye all?

Preservation Team Gets Row A

Why doesn't that surprise me?

What the hell are you idiots talking about? Get a life!

Hey name-caller, seems like you're the idiot for spending time reading something you so obviously regard as foolish. Put your money where your mouth is, what's your name, what's your game? Or are you too scared Ralphie?

"What the hell are you idiots talking about? Get a life!"

The aforementioned "idiots" are talking about where on the ballot each party is placed. Typically, the candidate/party that appears on the first row has an inherant advantage.

I have no problem with anonymous posters who remain civil, but if you're going to name-call and remain anonymous, you're nothing more than a coward.

That was my point!! Row A Clearly Has an advantage.

OK, two posts above there is an anonymous (read Ralphling) entry accusing someone of taking a bribe. My first instinct is to delete any unsigned, unproven, unbelieveable libel.
What do the rest of you say?
How should this blog deal with crap like that post?
Delete it, or let people see how low the Ralphlings are willing to go?
And yes, I am accusing Ralph's posse without proof and so let me say, this is my opinion, not a proven fact.

Anonymous said...

Hey Unc.

If you delete that entry, then you'll have to delete over 70% of the other entries for their lies and ineundos...or do you plan to just delete the ones that don't go along with your views and the views of the renegade republicans on the board?

Anonymous said...

Hey Unc,
If you have to delete all the lies, at least you can leave all the postings about how Ralph and his band of idiots lied to all the residents to get the Village passed. Like how it would save us all from annexation, yet now he states he will fight all attempts....what attempts?, he stated that the village would stop the attempts, or how no planning or zoning or planning would change, yet now he states he will change and tighten zoning.....same old Ralph and company, lies lies and more lies.......but the biggest lie is how he will keep all town services the same, not only the Fire District, which was PROVEN that he lied about, but more importantly the one he can not hide or run from is how he wanted to ABOLISH this towns police department in 1981 and have the State Police cover our Town to save money.....great idea, give up safety and security for money. And that Mr. anonymous is a FACT.

Ralph believes that he is very close to his ultimate victory. Look at the big picture.

Anonymous said...

community party slate is row D??

Anonymous said...

What is the ultimate victory?

Anonymous said...

Yes Row D--------the one last chance to save Woodbury.

Anonymous said...

Absolute control.

Anonymous said...

So the two full slates are Row A (Preservation Team) and Row D (Community slate). Row B & C went to the other single mayor candidates. How did they select who gets what row?? How much advantage do you thing being at the top of the ballot has??

Anonymous said...

I have a couple of questions this is coming from a new resident who would like to be informed!!

No matter who is running the village board what is the town boards responsibilities and the village boards job?? What would booth do??

Anonymous said...

Nearly everwhere else does it alphabetically, someone should inquire about this.

Anonymous said...

It is not done alphabetically anywhere. The rows go alphabetically. Row A, Row B, Row C, Row D, etc.
In a town election, state election and the Federal elections candidates run on their endorsed lines eg. Republican is always row A, Democrats always Row B, but in a village election the candidates party names are picked randomly for example out of a box to make things fair for the people running.

Anonymous said...

don't u think the full slates should have preference??

Anonymous said...

Being on the top is of NO advantage at all. Remember, TWICE Ralph was on Row A ahead of Roxanne on Row B, and TWICE she kicked his ass! You would have thought he would have learned something about how important telling the TRUTH is by now, but as usual, he hasn't learned a damn thing and continues to lie! The residents of Woodbury should take offense to how stupid Ralph thinks they are that they would believe his lies!

Anonymous said...

Sure, being in Row A didn't give Ralph a win over Roxanne, but in a close race, it is common wisdom that being in the top spot provides for an extra percent or two (I'm curious to know if there are any studies out there that show exactly how much it helps).

As for the belief that Ralph does not stand a chance, I beg to differ. Ralph has MUCH higher name recognition than any of the other mayoral candidates, largely because of the free press that he got in the days up to and after the village vote - name recognition is not to be underestimated.

That's not to say that Stephanie doesn't have a chance because in fact I think it is quite the opposite - the CommUNITY Party seems to have a good infrastructure and will run a good campaign, but the key will be to set the facts straight and more importantly, get her name out to everyone.

If you want to help elect good people to the new board (and subsequently keep Ralph and his posse off it), go to www.communityparty.net

Anonymous said...

row a & b are little more towards the top unlike row D!!!

Anonymous said...

You're certainly selling people short if you think that they can't read beyond the letter A or choose the best candidates....but then again, I guess that's what Ralph is hoping for!

Anonymous said...

There's a reason why our founding fathers wanted an appointed Senate...

In all seriousness though, it does make a difference. Look at the Lamont-Lieberman race where a big deal is being made about the fact that Lieberman is towards the bottom and Schlesinger, the Republican (there's a Republican in that race!?) is on the first row. Many Lamont supporters are hopeful that Republican voters, who may not have even known there was a Republican in the race, will see Schlesinger first and simply cast their vote for him.

Anonymous said...

Oh please. Anyone who goes into a voting booth without any idea of whom they are voting for, and simply looks for a letter doesn't deserve the privilege to vote! And, anyone that doesn't take the time to weigh out what is being said by the candidates, question and use good judgment deserves Ralph!

Anonymous said...

I'm not trying to argue with you - I think it's a terrible thing as well that some people don't pay nearly as much attention in the booth as they should (I always double check everything before I pull that lever for instance), but what I've said about voting and rows is just a fact of political science...

Anonymous said...

Gee, didn't see anyone attempting to deny that ole savior boy Ralphie tried to abolish the police department while he was a councilman...........hmmm, think he knows what we've dug up and is afraid to get caught in yet another lie.

$11.3 Million for Internet Defamation

The Associated Press
Wednesday, October 11, 2006; 5:23 PM

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A children's services referral provider was awarded $11.3 million in damages from a mother who posted critical Internet messages after seeking her advice.

The defendant, Carey Bock, called Sue Scheff a "con artist," "crook" and "fraud" in messages posted on a site used by parents with troubled children at boarding schools.

The award for Scheff, founder of Parents Universal Resource Experts Inc., is among the largest for a lawsuit claiming Internet defamation, according to legal analysts and an attorney involved in the case.

A judge ruled in Scheff's favor after Bock did not show up for the trial. The jury then decided the damage amount. The Sept. 19 judgment was first reported Friday by Daily Business Review.

The dispute arose after Bock sought help withdrawing her sons from a school in Costa Rica. Scheff said she referred Bock to a consultant, and the two disagreed over access to information. Later Bock posted the negative messages about Scheff on an Internet site used by parents with troubled children at boarding schools.

The lawsuit was filed in 2003. Scheff won the $11.3 million judgment, which includes $5 million in punitive damages, from a Broward County jury.

Scheff attorney David H. Pollack said Wednesday that the award "signals that there is a limit" to the material that can be used on the Internet.

"You can't just destroy somebody's life, destroy somebody's reputation and make blatant false statements about somebody and have there be no consequence," Pollack said. "There has to be a consequence."

It's unclear if Scheff, who lives in suburban Fort Lauderdale, will collect any money.

Bock, of Mandeville, La., told USA Today she didn't have the money to pay the award or appeal it. She relocated temporarily after Hurricane Katrina flooded her home last year, and she said she wasn't aware of the trial date after returning home over the summer.

IN MY OPINION JS IS AN IDIOT. THAT IS PROVEN EVERYTIME SHE MAKES A STATEMENT. HOW COULD SHE EVER EXPECT TO GET MORE THAN TWO VOTES.

Anonymous said...

I just wanted to point out so Uncle Betty knows, whoever keeps posting that stupid article about internet defamation is breaking the Associated Press' copyright... amazingly, they were even stupid enough to copy and paste the copyright notification! I left it on my page because I responded to it and I don't feel responsible for someone else breaking copyright, but you might want to delete the comment if you're the nervous type.

First of all, turn off your caps. Second, I'm not running for anything, so I don't expect to get more than two votes. Third, I'm not a she. Fourth, get a life you anonymous, name-calling coward.
