I just got my absentee ballot in the mail today and noticed something I had not expected, namely two town propositions - only the first of which I really care about:

"Shall the term of office of the Town of Supervisor be increased from two years to four years, effective January 1, 2008?"

Who is behind this?

Uncle Betty said...

It was discussed at a number of town board meetings. It was not suggested by Burke, who actually seemed a bit uncomfortable with the idea and wanted a public hearing on it.
It wouldn't start until the term of whoever is elected Supervisor in '07.

Thanks Uncle for honoring my request...thats just hilarious.

what's the other proposition?

Anonymous said...

The other proposition is exactly the same except it pertains to the Superintendant of Highways.

Well don't give half an answer. Who brought the discussion up. I think it was Mike Q. I wonder why? Does'nt Mike Q. sell real estate? One more for the builders!!!!! Half an answer speaks volumes.

Uncle Betty said...

Not only the builders, after all his name is QUEENan. So it's a secret success for the homosexuals. And the Irish and, oh yeah, because of your post, the idiots can claim another victory too.

It was brought up by Pete Stabile the Highway Super. He wants a four year term. So the board said if we are going to do a referendum on the Highway super they minds well do one for the Supervisors position.
If you do not feel these positions should go to four years then vote NO!
What does Mike selling real estate have to do with term lengths?

Is it legal for the Town to have a referendum on a Village ballot? That seems a little fishy. I thought they are looked at as two entirely separate entities? Who pays for setting up this election...the Village or the Twon. If only one, then how can the other possibly have a referendum? Can you check that out UB??

the ballot questions are on the town ballot on Nov 7th not the village ballot on the 2nd.

Thanks for that clarification. It appears that the Village vote has trumped the general election!

Another thing I'd like to know is why the county coroner is an elected position. I'm curious as to what kind of platform a Republican coroner runs on...

Anonymous said...

Traditionally under New York State Law there are 4 county coroners elected in each county in New York State unless the positions are abolished and an appointed Medical Examiner is appointed by the county legislative authority. Rarely are the positions challenged by the Democrats although on occasion they can be. Mary McPhillips was a Democrat County Coroner before moving on to State Assembly and County Executive.

Perhaps we should begin a write-in campaign for Ralph as County Coroner.
It will give him something to do and it might be the kind of work that he can sink his teeth into.

Anonymous said...

Wasn't there a push recently for the the Orange County Legislature to do just that, abolish it as an elected position and appoint a medical examiner?

Anonymous said...

It is something being considered requires a change in the county charter. Ralph would be good for coroner with the dark black suits and the dark black tie. I can see him in that role.

ub you like the idea of requests?

Anonymous said...

questions to UB or any one else who might have a reasonable answer,

Why dose it matter how long the supervisors term is or who the supervisor is since we have a new higher government with this new village board?? Did they talk about this extension before the village created or when it was talked about being created?

From the Preservation website..."Annexation is not a simple transfer of property from one municipality to another, as some would have you believe." Hey Ralph- no one ever said it would be simple, that's the point!!! It will be a costly, drawn out battle, and now instead of just the Town fighting it, the Village will have to defend it as well. Boy I wish I was an attorney collecting those fees!!! What you said originally Ralph was that a Village would PREVENT annexation, when you know damn well that it won't!!! Ralph, you need to hang your head in shame!

Anonymous said...

Your an idiot, lets see the written documentation where Ralph said it would prevent annexation! I am looking at both kits and it says no such thing!!
STOP LYING!

The wolf in sheeps clothing is the community party! I just saw the community party hand out and its real funny how Mike Cling said he's a member of the fire dept, but conviently left out that he is a FIRE COMMISSIONER!! That is very deceitful to the public!!!!

Yes, I so adore Ralph, I want to be him, thats what this is all about, we all want to be Ralph so bad. I wish I could be so highly respected by the people in this community that I could be defeated for office everytime I run. I wish I could be so admired that everyone I help elect to office runs as far away from me as possible after they get in. I wish I only had the respect of the ignorant half of the Republican Committee. Oh yes I want to be Ralph so very much.

a republican coroner would be against the death tax, of course

a democratic one would be for universal health care (to prevent more deaths) which would require a tax hike
