The Forum will take place this Thursday at 7 PM at the Monroe Woodbury High School Auditorium. OCEAN is organizing the event, but we have arranged for the Times Herald Record to make all decisions about the format and content. The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce has arranged for the required insurance. David Sutz, Tony Cirigliano, Stephanie Berean-Weeks, Neil Crouse, Mike Kling, Joann Stabile and Pat Kinney have all accepted the invitation. Part of the evening will be questions for the mayoral candidates and part for the trustee candidates. The questions will be subnitted by the audience and chosen by the moderator, Chris Mele, Regional Editor of the Times Herald Record. While the event is for the benefit of voters in the Village of Woodbury, everyone who wishes to come is welcome. The event is free of charge. We expect that the question period will be about 90 minutes long.

In partucular, about annexation. He was told over and over that annexation from a village is as easy as annexation from a town and each time he insisted that he was right. Now he tells you it was a simple error. Come now, how is that an acceptable excuse? As for taxes, the village will cost what it costs, a municipality must pay for itself, its salaries, its insurance, its legal fees. To project a number and claim that we will only pay $28 per $100,000 in assessed value while ignoring the most expensive bills that a village faces is duplicitous. It all must be paid for by "regular" taxes - ours. For a man on the street not to know is no problem, for a man who talked us into voting for a village and now wants to be mayor, not knowing all of these important things is unacceptable. And, if he now admits to you that he was wrong about these things, why is he still handing out his literature which still mistates the facts? No one should call you names, but there are some not so nice names that one might well call Ralph.

Reading comments posted here, there is alot of chatter about Mr. Caruso who seems to have rubbed people the wrong way. I am not interested in name calling, but I am deeply concerned about the upcoming election and the qualities of who will set up and run this new government. Things that concern me include: 1) The preservation kit--newest version has changed some of its position put out before the vote to create the village. Before they said they would leave the zoning as it is. Now they say here and in the newspaper that they will review all zoning. 2) The "kit" also seems to be misleading about the tax impact--that it will be more than the $84 per year. 3) I know people who signed the petition because they were told by Mr. Caruso's people that a village would prevent annexation. We have now learned that is not true either.
All of this appears to be a political bait and switch tactic. which is insulting to people's intelligence. What else is going to be different from what we were originally told?
And now other isolated incidents come to mind that cause concern as a pattern of behavior begins to appear.
For example,I was at the High School hearing about the project near the high school last summer. I listend to the statement from the Town's attorney about why it was illegal to hold a referendum on zoning. Mr. Caruso got up and reworded what was said, acting like an attorney,and contradicting legal opinion. If people followed Mr. Caruso and he is wrong, wouldn't we be in serious legal trouble? Mr. Causo did not have anything from an attorney but seemed to be passing himself off as one.
I also recall that he had a My View in the paper stating that developers would make too much money if allowed concessions from the Town. But even I knew that his figues of land selling for $20,000 an acre were way off. If I could call a realtor and find that out how come he did not do the same thing before publishing wrong information in the paper?
Perhaps some of the anger directed at him has to do with what begins to look like a pattern of either distributing wrong information on purpose or actually convincing himself that the incorrect information is true. But the fact that it has happened numerous times and with such authority on his part does undermine one's credibility. His followers seem to blindly accept all that he says even in the face of facts to the contrary.
All of this raises deep concern about who we voters decide to place as our mayor in a new Village. If we have reckless decisions, that will surely increase our taxes.
Because of this pattern of bait and switch and incorrent information, I have decided to not listen to anyone's interpretation of the 5 laws passed recently which Mr. Caruso's group seems to object to so strongly--perhaps a little too strongly. I am going to read them myself and see what is so bad about them. If I and others are being misled again, then I will be back with that information--before the election. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Hey, fact seeker--good luck trying to figure things out in this murky mess.
You should add two other events to your pattern of behavior list: 1) the only group that tried to hold a forum before the village vote were the firemen who brought in an attorney experiened in this area. Caruso tried to dominate the meeting and constantly fought with the attorney. He is entitled to his opinion, but if he is going to challenge the law, he should at least cite the attorney he consulted. Otherwise it is just his opinion, no better or worse than any other non-expert- just his unexpert opinion.
2) The former Village people, now recast as the Preservation Group, held 2 meetings back when this all started. At least the attorney they brought in admitted he was not an expert in this area of the Law. But most of us left with more questions than answers. It was clear that the group sponsoring the village, including John Burke, had no answers. They certainly knew what people's questions were and to date they have not been answered. That is why people are so angry.
When one of their group, Mrs. Unger, wrote that we should not consider voting for people who opposed the village, I had to scratch my head. Actually, shouldn't they be the people to consider since they apparently were not taken in by the misinformation and were smart enought to see through it? Why would you vote for people who have not responded with connect information for over 2 years? They have already shown how they operate. The other side can't be worse than this.
Question: Isn't it interesting that the people who "created" a village that they did not understand much about, such as the fact that it would take revenue (over $1,000,000) from the Town and only give the Town back $1.00 for services now want us to put them into office so that they run our Village and our lives? Their math makes no sense. While on the surface, they sold the village as protecting the town, could it be that it's also a power grab--another chance at an election for Mr. Caruso? What is it called when you create a job and then fill it yourself? One only hears from one person---Mr Caruso---as the spokesman and the rest all follow along. I don't believe in name calling, but it does not take an expert to see political game playing and power grabbing. And people wonder why politics has such a smell about it---all the way down to the local level. Woodbury is a lovely community but the politics reeks.
To Fact Seeker: not a bad idea to actually read the laws and make up one's own mind. How do we get our hands on them? Uncle Betty, can you inform us? Is it available on line or can we only see them at Town Hall? I'd like to look them over before the Thursday night forum and get answers from the candidates. Didn't one of them involve senior housing? How can that be bad for the Town? Thanks

Question: are all the candidates going to be there? A lot of people have questions for Mr. Caruso and his group. Caution to those who are not familiar with his political triple talk, be sure your question specifically asks him to DOCUMENT where his "facts" come from. I am eager to hear him explain his preservation kit--volume 1, volume 2, volume---whatever version is out there now.

How am I supposed to believe that this man who works for a state senator and who loves to go on and on about how he is more educated in government than his main opponent did not know these things were going to happen. Ralph just didnt care if these things happened or not. This village is about Ralph Caruso taking control of Woodbury, becuase he cant get control of the town. Everytime he thinks he does people defect once they know his true intentions. So, no, he creates a village where he can be the mayor and finds 4 of Woodbury's most brainwashed and politically unsavvy citizens to be his village board. Thats what this whole thing is about...plain annd simple. Then he will let KJ come in and take over and block vote him in to office forever.

It seems that you have just realized that not answering doesn't work.
That trying to explain Ralph's lies doesn't work.

At some point you will have to face the fact that Ralph's whole campaign doesn't work.
There comes a time when all the lies, all the threats, all the bullshit, all the phony rumors and attacks build up to the point that the whole ugly mountain of it collapses under its own weight.

Ralph always got away with his lies before because there was no one to answer them, no place to shine a light on his fraud.

As far as integrity, well he's got about as much as Larkin...and as far as qualified..how, because he's aid to a state senator and can answer phones and pick people up from the airport, or because he has an on-line degree??? I don't know who it is that called me a fraud, but I don't appreciate it. Maybe i'm not saying things the right way, but don't tell me I never spoke to Ralph. He came to my home and explained it all to me.I may be a little bit older than the rest of you, and not on top of things as much as some people. I can tell you he was very sincere and I believed him. Theres no need to call names.

As to Ralph being sincere, faking that is one of his strong points.
But look at his responses to you. If, in fact he was telling you the trutrh,he was admitting that despite years to get it right, he knew nothing about the repercussions of his actions and now we all have to pay for that.
In partucular, about annexation. He was told over and over that annexation from a village is as easy as annexation from a town and each time he insisted that he was right. Now he tells you it was a simple error. Come now, how is that an acceptable excuse?
As for taxes, the village will cost what it costs, a municipality must pay for itself, its salaries, its insurance, its legal fees. To project a number and claim that we will only pay $28 per $100,000 in assessed value while ignoring the most expensive bills that a village faces is duplicitous. It all must be paid for by "regular" taxes - ours.
For a man on the street not to know is no problem, for a man who talked us into voting for a village and now wants to be mayor, not knowing all of these important things is unacceptable.
And, if he now admits to you that he was wrong about these things, why is he still handing out his literature which still mistates the facts?
No one should call you names, but there are some not so nice names that one might well call Ralph.

Reading comments posted here, there is alot of chatter about Mr. Caruso who seems to have rubbed people the wrong way. I am not interested in name calling, but I am deeply concerned about the upcoming election and the qualities of who will set up and run this new government. Things that concern me include:
1) The preservation kit--newest version has changed some of its position put out before the vote to create the village. Before they said they would leave the zoning as it is. Now they say here and in the newspaper that they will review all zoning.
2) The "kit" also seems to be misleading about the tax impact--that it will be more than the $84 per year.
3) I know people who signed the petition because they were told by Mr. Caruso's people that a village would prevent annexation. We have now learned that is not true either.
All of this appears to be a political bait and switch tactic. which is insulting to people's intelligence. What else is going to be different from what we were originally told?
And now other isolated incidents come to mind that cause concern as a pattern of behavior begins to appear.
For example,I was at the High School hearing about the project near the high school last summer. I listend to the statement from the Town's attorney about why it was illegal to hold a referendum on zoning. Mr. Caruso got up and reworded what was said, acting like an attorney,and contradicting legal opinion. If people followed Mr. Caruso and he is wrong, wouldn't we be in serious legal trouble? Mr. Causo did not have anything from an attorney but seemed to be passing himself off as one.
I also recall that he had a My View in the paper stating that developers would make too much money if allowed
concessions from the Town. But even I knew that his figues of land selling for $20,000 an acre were way off. If I could call a realtor and find that out how come he did not do the same thing before publishing wrong information in the paper?
Perhaps some of the anger directed at him has to do with what begins to look like a pattern of either distributing wrong information on purpose or actually convincing himself that the incorrect information is true. But the fact that it has happened numerous times and with such authority on his part does undermine one's credibility. His followers seem to blindly accept all that he says even in the face of facts to the contrary.
All of this raises deep concern about who we voters decide to place as our mayor in a new Village. If we have reckless decisions, that will surely increase our taxes.
Because of this pattern of bait and switch and incorrent information, I have decided to not listen to anyone's interpretation of the 5 laws passed recently which Mr. Caruso's group seems to object to so strongly--perhaps a little too strongly. I am going to read them myself and see what is so bad about them. If I and others are being misled again, then I will be back with that information--before the election. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Question for the other team - If the preservation packets you have been tossing on lawns, attaching to mailboxes and stuffing into trash cans is the "truth" then why don't you attend the Forum on Thursday, October 26th and defend it?

Hey, fact seeker--good luck trying to figure things out in this murky mess.
You should add two other events to your pattern of behavior list:
1) the only group that tried to hold a forum before the village vote were the firemen who brought in an attorney experiened in this area. Caruso tried to dominate the meeting and constantly fought with the attorney. He is entitled to his opinion, but if he is going to challenge the law, he should at least cite the attorney he consulted. Otherwise it is just his opinion, no better or worse than any other non-expert- just his unexpert opinion.
2) The former Village people, now recast as the Preservation Group, held 2 meetings back when this all started. At least the attorney they brought in admitted he was not an expert in this area of the Law. But most of us left with more questions than answers. It was clear that the group sponsoring the village, including John Burke, had no answers. They certainly knew what people's questions were and to date they have not been answered. That is why people are so angry.
When one of their group, Mrs. Unger, wrote that we should not consider voting for people who opposed the village, I had to scratch my head. Actually, shouldn't they be the people to consider since they apparently were not taken in by the misinformation and were smart enought to see through it? Why would you vote for people who have not responded with connect information for over 2 years? They have already shown how they operate.
The other side can't be worse than this.
Question: Isn't it interesting that the people who "created" a village that they did not understand much about, such as the fact that it would take revenue (over $1,000,000) from the Town and only give the Town back $1.00 for services now want us to put them into office so that they run our Village and our lives? Their math makes no sense. While on the surface, they sold the village as protecting the town, could it be that it's also a power grab--another chance at an election for Mr. Caruso? What is it called when you create a job and then fill it yourself? One only hears from one person---Mr Caruso---as the spokesman and the rest all follow along. I don't believe in name calling, but it does not take an expert to see political game playing and power grabbing. And people wonder why politics has such a smell about it---all the way down to the local level. Woodbury is a lovely community but the politics reeks.
To Fact Seeker: not a bad idea to actually read the laws and make up one's own mind. How do we get our hands on them? Uncle Betty, can you inform us? Is it available on line or can we only see them at Town Hall? I'd like to look them over before the Thursday night forum and get answers from the candidates. Didn't one of them involve senior housing? How can that be bad for the Town? Thanks
At the beginning of this blog, someone called Swiller and his group liars about a candidate forum. Guess they were wrong because I have seen notices about it ---for this Thursday night.
Question: are all the candidates going to be there? A lot of people have questions for Mr. Caruso and his group. Caution to those who are not familiar with his political triple talk, be sure your question specifically asks him to DOCUMENT where his "facts" come from. I am eager to hear him explain his preservation kit--volume 1,
volume 2, volume---whatever version is out there now.
