This is the make it or break it campaign for Ralph.
One term, twenty years ago as a town councilman and turned out of office the first chance the voters got.
Two runs for county legislator and defeated worse the second time than the first.
Tossed out of his position as Chairman of the ZBA and certain not to be reappointed as a board member.
Most likely in his last term as chairman of the Woodbury Republican Committee.
His meal ticket, Larkin, running for what will be his own last term.
One might almost pity Ralph, but to do that you would have to be unaware of his carrer as a bully, getting what he wanted by threats and intimidation. Once the power starts to slip away, those threats mean less and less.
Ralph knows that this is his last throw of the dice, and he will pull out all stops.
The next two weeks will see the typical Caruso end-game at full blast: lies, rumors, unsigned flyers, last minute mailings filled with last minute bullshit.
The snake is badly wounded and he will be spitting venom.

Hey Preservation guy/gal- could you please list anything that they have actually done? Fuchs being John Burke's daughter doesn't count for diddly- she hasn't attended a town board meeting, other than to see her dad sworn in, and has never volunteered...so forget that. Muloolly almost got the Planning Board sued because of his mouthing off at a man before the board. Pedersen is on the same page as the rest of them as far as suing the Town, and who the hell is Meyers? At the very least, the Community Party candidates have both professional and volunteer experience, and don't give a hoot about kissing Ralph's ass!

Why does the kit your beloved, honest team gave out before the Village Vote say that there will be no change to zoning and now, after the Village vote, that zoning will be "tightened?"
Why do they keep saying the budget will be under $200,000, when insurance alone will be more than that?
Why do they say they researched this thoroughly and they never figured out (or never told us) that the village will create a financial crisis for the town and that starting just over a year from now the town will be without most of its funds?
Why did they make people think that having a village would protect us from annexation when the law on annexing from a town or from a village is exactly the same?
Answer that and then say how wonderful, honest, good, kind, loyal and true your preservation team is.

Kiryas Joel - The Kiryas Joel Housing Authority is one of 34 New York agencies sharing $3.2 million in federal funds meant to help home renters become owners, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced yesterday.
The cut for Kiryas Joel was $63,630. Those funds underwrite the salaries of employees who enroll recipients of Section 8 rent subsidies in job training, child care and other programs.

Woodbury - Well, at least two issues are squared away.
Orange County will continue forwarding mortgage tax receipts to the Town of Woodbury until June 1, after which the twice-a-year checks will go to the new village government, Richard Golden, a lawyer for the town, said yesterday.
Sales taxes, which are shared with Orange County municipalities four times a year, will still go to the town in 2007, said Golden, who met with county officials to discuss the issue.
But as of January 2008, that money will go to the village – if the new village officials decide before Sept. 1 that they want the money, Golden said.
Those two revenue sources – sales and mortgage taxes – brought in roughly $2 million for Woodbury in 2005.

Is it true that Johnathon Swiller made a appearance at the Preservation open house on Sat at the Savory Grill and was hugged by all the Preservation party candidates . He was also given free coffee and begals . After that there was a debate and apon conclusion ,after learning that they are all telling the truth he announced that the thurs night debate is being called off . He then used his cell phone and called Cris Mele of the THR and told him to put out a press release notifying the Woodbury residents that it's been called off. He then announced to the 60 people in attendance that OCEAN is endorsing the entire preservation team .
Ralph's team is so pathetic I almost feel embarrassed for them.
All they can do is scream over and over "vote for Ralph."
People have posted a long list of Ralph's lies and said "explain one of them" and Ralph's guy can't even explain one. So he gets more and more desperate and says people are naive, they have egg on their face, everyone else lies and vote for Ralph.
He can't come up with one single answer.
I hope all of Woodbury reads this. They would see how absolutely worthless Ralph and his team are. How filled with lies they are. How they can't answer any questions. Not one.
Well, to begin with, I did go to the open house.
I was't hugged, but I shook hands with Ralph (Bill Mullooly refused to shake hands with me).
I had two cups of coffee and a small danish.
I would estimate that there were about 30 people there.
There was no debate. I was sitting talking to one fellow, when suddenly Carol Mullooly and Don Siebold came over and sat on either side of him.
Don immediately began talking, but in that the fellow and I were in a conversation, I am afraid that we ignored him. Then Don tried to hold a conversation with Carol across the fellow they were flanking, but Carol was too polite to do that.
Don left, Carol stayed and the three of us chatted for a while. Carol mentioned that some people active in politics have ulterior motives and you have to be careful of them. I agreed.
I didn't call Chris Mele. OCEAN's board is still discussing whom to endorse in all the upcoming elections. I personally haven't endorsed anyone yet.
And I am curious why you want the forum cancelled. Also I am curious why you would say that I called Chris Mele, in that, as far as I know, only the candidates themselves were told that he was the contact at the Record that I am working with in setting up the forum.
Actually, some interpretation of quantum physics postulate the power of intention/belief might actually affect one's reality... maybe even spin them off into alternate dimensions. One can only hope Ralph and his fawning cheer-squad can make a nice fuzzy place where reality bends to their will, and let the rest of us have a village that stays out of the poorhouse.
Heh, I'm still half-convinced they were just baiting us for our arguments. The other possibilities seem to be people new enough to the 'net to not understand the concept of a flame war, or who simply like to use four year old "I'm right!" tantrums as debating tools.
In any case, I'm probably over-worrying on this one. Its rather hard to last-minute shift your position when you have 3 others in writing, or make yourself look good with a budget fubar in excess of 6 digits. Definately getting a good seat at that debate, and some fresh notecards. Bright colors recommended, judging by the preservation posting up there.
Lets not get too overconfident though. Those posts might have been for that, and we've still got a bitch of an election to win.

I'm not trying to say that Ralph is perfect. Nobody is. But I just don't understand. He tells you all the things you want to hear, and he's should know, he says it. Whats wrong with that? The fact that some who started the Village with Ralph and now are against it, KNOW he lied. That's proof enough for me. The fact that Ralph puts statements in his kit and then changes them by 180 degrees once the village is created is double-talk, and again, proof that he lied. Keep living in your fantasy world, and Ralph will have you believing that rather than paying additional taxes, the Village will give you back money!!!

In the Preservation Kit meant to get people to vote for the Village he said there would be no change in zoning. After the vote that changed suddenly.
He said that the Village would have a budget of around $150,000 and we have since learned that municipal insurance alone (based on costs to the town) could be $250,000. Add to that the legal costs of setting up this Village and then all the other costs of running the village and the number he gave has no reality.
His "kit" created the impression that a village is protection against annexation. Don Siebold, Bart Bloom and other associates of Caruso's specifically said that you can't annex from a village, but that is totally false.
He claims that he thoroughly researched creating the village, but he either somehow missed (or just didn't tell us) about the huge effect it will have on the town's ability to stay solvent.
And that's just for starters.
I myself have three other major whoppers, but I'm saving them to ask at the forum (why tip him off to all the questions).
Yes, you are right, he tells us what he thinks we want to hear. But what he should be telling us is the truth. He isn't.

Well I can tell you I have lived in Woodbury for 26 years and I trust my families future to Ralph Caruso and the Preservation Team!
Whether someone was for or against creating a village (as I announced, I voted no) we have one now, so all of us are a part of it.
Being against creating a problem doesn't disqualify someone from being able to help solve that problem.
One could argue, in fact, that someone who creates a problem is the worst person to deal with it once it happens.
I'm not saying Ralph is perfect, like all of us I am sure he's made some mistakes. Also, he tends to lie all the time and he's a bully who tries to get even with anyone who doesn't do what he wants. But it isn't fair to hold that against him
And sure, he has tantrums when people disagree with him and I guess that like his boss Larkin he is willing to sell out Woodbury.
But, I don't understand why people are so mean to him. Live and let live, so why don't you just leave the poor man alone so he can go about his business of grabbing power and ruining our town.
If any of you are perfect, then you can criticize him, otherwise you should lay off, stop pointing out his lies, let him take over and don't be so mean.
Ralph has done so many good things for us. He's helped sue the town. He worked very hard to give us wrong information about the village. When Timber Ridge was reassessed he saw how important it was to bring in a lawyer who charged way too much for what we could have done for free. He's always thinking about us and all the ways that he can mislead us and take advantage of us. How many other people spend so much time on us?
I've lived here for over 25 years and I feel that we ought to give Ralph one more chance to get it right. After all, what's the worst that could happen other than the loss of our homes?

As to OCEAN, I get one vote. The whole board must decide, as it does any time that we make endorsements.
As I made clear, I don't accept the argument that being opposed to the creation of the village disqualifies someone from running for the village board.

Referring to Stephanie only running to get Cliff the Chief of Police position, If the man meets the requirements and passes the test, he should have the position. Unless Ralph is elected Mayor!. He will systematicaly elimiate everyone associated with his challengers should he win this electionl because that is is style.

First of all I didn't hear the rumor from Ralph. I heard the rumor from someone close to the other opponents. So how does that stike you and how nice of Stephanie Berean-Weeks to put a fancy title to one of her jobs. Why didn't she just write TOLL COLLECTOR? Thats exactly what she did. Maybe she was trying to deceive the public! Now theres the experience a candidate for Mayor needs....yeah right!

Ralph and his team have no personal agenda or axe to grind like the Community Party. Why else would people who didn't want the village be candidates. They probabley have an agenda and its not good. THEY ARE MAD THE VILLAGE PASSED WHEN THEY DIDN'T WANT IT TO. PEOPLE BEWARE!!

I asked the Community Party about their view of the village and they were honest enough to say that they were initially in favor of it until they researched the laws and found too many inconsistancies in The Preseveration Kit.
Its not about college, its about experience and Stephanie Berean-Weeks has none, a toll collector, a girl scout leader does not give you experience to be Mayor! I saw someone ask what business she owned ,I guess know one knows. Or does it even exist. Was that another one of her lies! Putting fancy title on small jobs abd not being forthcoming on your brochure is deceitful and in no way Mayor material!

I'm new to reading this blog, but I wasn't that suprised to read that Stephanie Berean-Weeks wants to be Mayor so her husband can be Chief of Police and that the builders could be funding their campaign. It makes sense, they did have a fundraiser at the central valley inn. The builders have meetings there often and unless the builders were paying for it, they wouldn't be able to afford it.
So THIS is Ralph's newest campaign strategy??? Ask all the yucks that can't spell or use proper grammar to come out and use a nonsensical argument to assault Uncle Betty and this lovely website. And I once went to a bar-mitzva reception at the Central Valley Inn and the people in KJ have bar mitzvas and the Community Party has a "u" in it and so does the word "builders."

Question for the other team - If the preservation packets you have been tossing on lawns, attaching to mailboxes and stuffing into trash cans is the "truth" then why don't you attend the Forum on Thursday, October 26th and defend it?
First off you people are spending too much time writing about Ralph. Don't give him any credit. His information was wrong and the Community Party proved it!
Ralphs people are angry about that, but I also hear some anger from the Community Party supporters. Stop all the banter back and fourth and stick to the facts. I would like to hear two things:
1. Preservation Party please answer the questions that have been raised about the wrong information and changes on platform issues presented in the original kit.
2. Community Party, what is your message other than countering what the Preservation kit has put together. What are you going to do for me?
Here is something that says it all...if everything in the "Kit" is true, why then was it placed in everyones garbage pail? Was it a Freudian Slip?
The CommUNITY party should be wary not just of Caruso (who will no doubt send plenty of people to attack their candidates while conveinently not having to stand and face questions of his own), but of all candidates involved.
Mr. Sutz seems like a nice guy... but does he have any understanding of the risk we face from "tweeking" our zoning? And, living near WP3's site as he does, can be be trusted to make tough decisions if it means saving some of our beautiful open space, rather than having it all go the way of Ace Farm? I would seriously recommend he, and everyone read Ms. Campbell's letter today of how this could tear our town apart financially and ruin any chances of having a case to stand on come annexation-time.
Whatever happens, this vote will determine the fate of Woodbury. I pray we still have a community in a few years.
Given the nature of our situation nobody may be able to give exact numbers before the election. Our very unconventional village will have to be ironed out with the State Dept, and they deal with elected officials, not candidates.
What this village does need is honest condidates who won't feed you a booklet of "facts" they can't back up, and will iron out the nuts and bolts of this new village in an honest, open manner which will save the taxpayers $$ and work competantly with our town board to safeguard Woodbury's future. I believe the CommUNITY party will do this, and brings not just one candidate but a diverse team to this effort.
