Swiller tried to read this at the Town Board Meeting tonight, but it was considered too political. We liked it, so here it is:
Recently I was walking my dogs near my home when they spotted an animal burrow, at the edge of the woods, next to the road. They bolted for it and the air filled with the sounds of growls and barks and snarls and a terrible series of high-pitched squeals.
I pulled my dogs back and saw that both of my sweet and loving dogs had faces covered in blood and one of them had a woodchuck in its mouth.
I pulled and shouted and after way too long my dog dropped the torn and bleeding animal, which pawed the air and died as I watched.
Now, I am a meat eater and a woodchuck is a garden pest and my dogs were only doing what was in their nature to do - but it was an awful thing to see.
Animals and people are dying every second of every day - some in an instant with no time to realize what is happening, and some die drowning in a sea of pain and fear and regret.
And the only way for us to deal with this - the only way - is to make as much good in our lives as is possible and to do all that we possibly can to better those lives that we rub up against. And we must also stand against that which is wrong.
I have closely watched the women on this board and I have seen how hard they work. There is not one hint of secret motive or hidden agenda. They are working only for our betterment.
And at every opportunity there is one group of people who stand up and denounce and accuse and mislead and misstate. And there is nothing of value for anyone in what they do.
And so I speak out, and some are offended. I am sorry about that.
I did not know these people a year and a half ago and I have no reason to seek them out and fight with them. I do not wish to offend those of my neighbors who do not want to hear bad things said about the people they know.
But I see that these people are willing to put all our homes at risk. And they never address how they will deal with that risk.
It would be nice to have nothing ill to say about anyone. But as long as they put our homes and our town in danger, I will speak as I am speaking now.
Because what they do is terribly sad and it is a waste and, if Woodbury is destroyed because of them, it would be unforgivable.

Woodbury board OKs housing

Woodbury – The Town Board met last night at the Woodbury senior citizens center and adopted a package of laws allowing developer Bill Brodsky to proceed with plans to build 451 homes on land previously zoned for 148, off Dunderberg and Nininger roads.
All the votes were 4-1, with Councilman Michael Aronowitz casting the sole dissenting vote. Supervisor Sheila Conroy and councilwomen Geraldine Gianzero, Lorraine McNeill and Colleen Campbell voted yes.
It was a strangely muted conclusion to a controversy that has stirred fierce opposition at town meetings.
The crowd of about 100 was silent after the votes. Several spectators later rose to speak, but the board wouldn't let anyone talk about the project without the developer or his representatives there to respond.
Afterward, Conroy reiterated what she has said all along were some of the project's chief merits, including the donation of more than 100 acres of open space to the town and the inclusion of age-restricted houses.
"The thing I feel bad about is it was turned into a political issue from the beginning," she said.
Aronowitz, who has repeatedly urged the board to hold off on the votes until it finishes updating the town master plan, said afterward he was concerned both about the Brodsky project and a cluster-housing law just adopted that affects other large land parcels in town.
"To me, it's not just one project," he said.
Brodsky's proposal still needs Planning Board approval. That board has already begun reviewing the project, even though the Town Board had not yet adopted the required zoning modifications.

Just for the record UB, had they not adopted these changes, and John and his group get in, and Brodsky walked away, and KJ bought the land, and annexation papers were filed....what would John and his group do then? Where would the money come from to fight the annexation, when the backers of annexation seem to have endless funding??? I've been told Burke would possibly bankrupt the town in his sole effort to win. Then what? Also, this seems to be the ONLY issue that group has discussed. How do they feel about the non-negotiated employee contract? Where would the money come to fund that? What about our roads and sewers and parks...what would happen to the budget?? Would we see double digit tax increases as long as "their" part of the town is kept safe? You know, someone asked me to take a look at a map and see where most of the Ralph Caruso backed candidates and followers live in comparison to this project, and I'll be darned, almost all of them border land that could possibly be annexed! Is that their only vested interest in wanting to run our town? Pretty selfish if you ask me. What about the rest of us?? Just some food for thought.

I am extremely proud that these four women are sticking to the job they were elected to do in EVERY situation. They govern within the parameters of the law, (municipal law, not Ralph Caruso's law) and in the best interest of our town and it's future. Sometimes the choices are difficult ones, but they have kept on a steady, intelligent course, not waivering to fanatical groups, or the pressures of Ralph's remaining puppet on the board, and been steadfast in their duties. Win or lose on Tuesday, nothing will ever convince me that these women did not do their absolute best for our town. Thank you Sheila, Geri, Lorraine and Colleen.

Didn't Ralph Caruso and Don Seibold and Mike Queenan put together that whole Village of Woodbury thing to stop KJ? What ever happened to that?? I remember...it's sitting in court costing us taxpayers alot of money, right?? Oh, and wasn't it reported in the Times Herald Record that creating a Village CAN'T stop KJ from annexing anyway? Boy they sure did their homework on that one! Maybe the town can ask John Burke where to get the unbugeted money to fight that wise decision!!

No, I just single out the hypocrisy of those of you that complain of the supposed lack of open government at town hall, but yet will not open up the entity that you control...isn’t that a double standard??
OK, so the Uncle is going to set up some rules.
First, no logging on pretending to be someone else. A name like "Fast Eddie Diana" is ok, but "Ed Diana" isn't.
I am still working on outright lies. For the mement they stay, but that could change. The way to deal with lies is to point them out and show who is behind them.

You want KJ to buy the Brodsky property, which will be sold to the highest bidder if it isn't developed.
You want KJ to annex the land (which would happen if they went to a judge and said "we have 600 contiguous, largely undeveloped acres bordering our village and the only inhabitants want to be annexed.)
You want them to build three story apartment buildings next to each other (like on Bakertown and 105) which they will do because the Village of KJ will control the zoning.
You want 8,000 or more people to move into those buildings.
And you want all those new townsmen to have the deciding vote in the next Woodbury election, just as KJ's bloc vote now decides Monroe elections.

I am glad that the Board made sure that this won't happen. And no, it would not be possible for Brodsky to flip the land nor would it make any financial sense. It is worth much much much more to KJ now then it would be after development begins.
