Save Monroe, But From Whom?

The Uncle realizes that we have all been far too narrow in our focus.

There’s a whole, wide, wonderful world of dysfunction outside Woodbury’s borders.

We need only travel as far as Monroe to see how stunted we have been when it comes to political insanity.

SaveMonroe went out of its way to piss off anyone who might vote for them (KJ’ers, Democrats, Sandy Leonard) then managed to not get nominated by their very own personal party, and, after making sure that Sandy Leonard won re-election, congratulated themselves for it.

The Uncle’s massive espionage network (Spies Providing Uncle The Unvarnished Mojo or SPUTUM) has come up with Bob Purdy’s latest e-mail. He sent this out. Honest.

To quote a colleague who said it best "I am proud to have been part of a team that did not compromise it’s principles in order to win an election". To those who supported us we sincerely thank you.
Bob Purdy

RIOS 1426 1536
SCHWARTZ 1402 1520

WEEKS 900 2729

Now, the Uncle had, for some reason, thought that SaveMonroe’s first principle was to, well, save Monroe. I see now that their primary goal was to avoid getting any votes from Satmars. At this they succeeded admirably. So well in fact that they came in a distant third in the election, drawing just enough votes from the Dems to make sure that they didn’t win either.

The point of the chart seems to be that if Chasidim weren’t allowed to vote, SaveMonroe would have won. The Uncle notes that if Republicans (arguably a more frighteneing group than Jews) weren’t allowed to vote, the Democrats would have won. Further study indicates that if all those Monrovians with any of their own teeth were kept from voting Ralph might well have won by write in.

Am I wrong in believeing that SaveMonroe came into existence specifically to get Sandy Leonard out of office. And, if that’s the case, and if all that they managed to do was assure her victory, why is Bob Purdy smiling?

And lastly, didn’t Purdy and the others notice that the entire Szegedinista misinformation campaign was aimed at getting people to vote for SaveMonroe instead of the Democrats?

i like how they brag about all their votes coming from outside kj

well, sir, when you campaign against an entire village, the people in that village probably won't vote for you

and i like how kj split its vote between dems & reps. the so-called bloc vote thing is a load of crap. they are like any other group of people. they want whats best for their families

Blame misplaced
After reading the possibility to ban outdoor smoking in New York state, I am confused. As an ex-smoker, it is not a bad idea. Although if smoking is so bad for you that you can't even do it outside, why do they allow tobacco companies to continue to make cigarettes at all? If our government really had our health in mind, they would go after the tobacco companies, not the smokers.
If nonsmokers want to be annoyed with anyone, it should not be the men and women smoking outdoors, it should be the tobacco companies who make the stuff, the government who allows it and the drug companies who are in cahoots with them all. Instead of making the smokers the bad ones, let's place the blame where it really lies.

Meeting a sham
I attended the Mamakating Zoning Board meeting Nov. 3 for the so-called review, discussion and possible vote on granting the zoning variances for the mushroom plant. Forget the review and discussion. Only one board member had the responsibility, to the community, to question the application as pertaining to the structure. In my opinion, the other four members had decided on their vote prior to the meeting.
One board member said that they were not there to make friends, and he read a previously prepared report (I guess we know how he voted). Another member had a lengthy report previously prepared extolling the virtues of the plant (how do you think he voted?).
Another member actually said that if they nitpick every little thing in the zoning laws, nothing would get done (we know his vote). I would like to congratulate Fern Laks for her responsibility in voting against the variances. As for the other four – Jim Barnett, Cliff Asdal, Andy Lewis and Bill Fedun – do me a favor and resign. You have no responsibility or concern for the community.
Also, if you think $20,000 a year (less than $400 a week gross) is a livable wage today, I challenge you to do it.

Let's stick to art
Page 2 for advertisement by gay group? Why is this so important? The published article on page 2 of Friday's Record doesn't deserve the dramatic coverage of an angry artist versus a newspaper publisher, unless we want to start associating art with sexual acts, ethnic gender or employment preferences. The opening paragraph is in direct contradiction to what the newspaper publisher said.
The reporter states, "It's who the artist kisses good night that worries him." He didn't say he's worried about who the artist kisses ... so Ashley Kelly is fabricating opinion. He said, "What difference does it make what the artist is?" Therefore, since the artist is now labeled as a special group, are we to assume that the art will portray a sexual agenda rather than just art in itself?
So, in the same thought, will there be pedophile artwork, or rapist artwork, or perhaps monogamy artwork? Can art just be art, or do we have to label it gay and lesbian art? And if it must be labeled as a special group, do you think we really care what the artists do in their spare time? Let's just stick to art.

Need to learn English
Reference your article of Nov. 3 on page 6, regarding the couple who could not obtain a marriage license because the clerk felt they could not understand the forms they needed to sign. Seems to me the clerk did her job. So many people sign documents they do not understand and later suffer the consequences of their actions. Although the population of Middletown is 25 percent Hispanic, this is the United States and individuals that choose to live here need to learn to read, write and speak English.
My grandparents, when they emigrated from Italy, did that so they could become productive and informed citizens of their adopted country. They did not expect special treatment. Agencies should not need to incur additional expenses in printing documents in various languages, nor should employees need to speak a second language. If you choose to come to the United States, learn the language.

Why didn't Save Monroe and the Dems join forces? Maybe compromise on a slate of candidates?
KJ has finally split their bloc vote
What will that mean to future elections in Orange County?

In Woodbury, rumors abound,
Some will make you jump off the ground!
In Truth, I got sweaty,
Because I met Uncle Betty!
S/he wasn’t too hard to be found.

The Uncle foretells many an event,
Of a particularly political bent,
“The duties of a seer
Can be quite queer”*
But the fools’ tidings must be rent.**

*(N.B. as in “strange”, not homosexual)
**(N.B. as in “torn” not leased)

Someone asked "Why didn't Save Monroe and the Dems join forces? Maybe compromise on a slate of candidates? KJ has finally split their bloc vote? What will that mean to future elections in Orange County?"

The answers: Democrats asked Save Monroe to do a joined ticket. Save Monroe refused. There were 50 people in the room who were witnesses. Save Monroe insisted that Dems "take a pass this year and not run" and that it was "their candidates" or there would be a three way race. Dems were faced with the choice - run Dem candidates that have a shot at winning or support Save Monroe's candidates which had no shot of winning. Alliance backed Dems and Dems almost won. Look at the numbers. Had Save Monroe really wanted to save Monroe and either joined the ticket or not caused a three way race, Dems would have won. Save Monroe EGO insured the incumbent win. Future elections - If Alliance backs Dems next time and someone gets Save Monroe to shut up, Dems will win.
