Thanks to voters
Thanks to all our residents for the creation of the Village of Woodbury on Aug. 10. The voter turnout was great, with almost 80 percent of the voters who turned out (a 4-1 ratio) supporting the creation of the Village of Woodbury.I thank the residents for taking the time to vote, when in many cases it caused a late start of a vacation, cutting a vacation short and, in some cases, completely delaying a vacation to another time. We all realized that our families, our homes, our quality of life and our community are most important to us.
Many thanks to the members of the Citizens for the Preservation of Woodbury and the volunteers for their dedication and hard work, assuring that our residents received accurate information.
We are now on the right road, with the election of the Village Board members not too long in the near future.
As time gets closer to this election, the Citizens for the Preservation of Woodbury will participate in the process to assure that the proposals as presented to the residents in the preservation kit will be fully adhered to, fulfilled and implemented.

Kiryas Joel buys property for water towers

Woodbury — Kiryas Joel has bought a half-acre strip beside the Gonzaga park property and plans to build two water towers 100 feet from the spot where Orange County denied permission to install them.
The new location neatly bypasses the angry objections to parkland encroachment that derailed the project in July. But it could open a new round of fighting, this time over how much input Woodbury has on the installation of the tanks.
Kiryas Joel Administrator Gedalye Szegedin argues that state law allows one municipality to build inside another without seeking planning board approval or a building permit. He said he plans to submit the paperwork to Woodbury for comments, but only as a courtesy. In his view, the only agency that needs to sign off on the plans is the Orange County Health Department.
Woodbury Supervisor John Burke, who fought the earlier proposal on the principle that parkland is sacred, said yesterday that he still had concerns about the towers and would ask the town's lawyers if Kiryas Joel could truly skip the planning process.
"Water towers can't just be put up willy-nilly, anyplace," he said.
The 34-foot-high tanks emerged a few months ago as the latest hot potato for Kiryas Joel and its neighbors. The village needs them to increase water pressure in one section of the community and asked to install them on the county-owned Gonzaga property because of its elevation.
But the county Legislature shot down the request after some lawmakers, along with officials and citizens in Woodbury and Blooming Grove, opposed building on protected parkland.
After weighing its options, including seizing the site through eminent domain, Kiryas Joel paid a private landowner $200,000 for a half-acre of woods with the same elevation as the Gonzaga location. The seller was none other than Ziggy Brach, a prominent opponent of Kiryas Joel's political leaders.
Asked about the deal, Brach said the community's water needs transcended politics. He felt that opposition to the tanks had been "overly, overly done."

THR article quotes KJ's Admin. stating State law allows one municipality to build inside another w/o planning board approval or permits. Not too sure about that, but each Town has their own laws (Oh, I forgot they don't know what that word means). The sub-division of Brach's land to KJ should be considered an illegal sub-division. Sure, you can sell part of your property, but the correct way is to go through the correct legal pro-
cedures. The Town's Planning Board gives the OK about any sub-division and what, if anything can be built on it. The zoning for Brach's land is 2 acres. The Town also has a "Ridge Preservation Law".

Let's not get away from the original blog, which is what Ralph's people ALWAYS like to do...since when does Ralph Caruso dictate to 10,000 people what will and won't be? Who does he think he is? It appears that he has set out to attain a certain Master Plan of his own, and with the passing of the Village, he's half-way there. Him and his followers leave the public in the dark for 2 years, and then at the 11th hour, distribute some half-baked nonsense that we are supposed to believe is the final word on the Village. So, will he and his cohorts again go into hiding until the 11th hour, then force a slate of characters down our throats to run his self-serving Village???I don't think so!! Come on people- I realize with those glasses and monotone "Blah-Blah-Blah" that Ralph has become the Pied Piper of Woodbury and put us all into a deep sleep, but it's time to WAKE UP and realize the disaster that he has created and where he is leading us. PLEASE- shake off his unrealistic rhetoric and lets put together a slate of candidates that will work to BETTER Woodbury, not bring us to our knees like Ralph is intending to do! The village vote just goes to prove that people are stupid. They cast a yes vote for something they didn't understand because someone told them it would protect them! (like the village just protected them from the KJ Water towers)If it wasn't so serious it would be funny. And the few people that are rightly concerned about what will happen, are sitting around on their asses waiting for SOMEONE to do something. Why don't THEY do something? Or do they want the Ralphlings to control our destiny?
Advice to those who are concerned: don't wait for someone else to do something, YOU do it!!!
That sounds like a challenge, but how does one go about running for office? Do they need endorsement from a recognized political party? Can they make up their own? Do they need to walk petitions to get on the ballot, and if so, how many signatures do they need, and who is allowed to sign? When do the petitions need to be filed and where? It seems that both the Republicans, Democrats, (Republicrats and Demublicans) are keeping quite mum about this...is it because they have again formed an alliance and aren't letting the public at large know? Lets get the information out there that people need in order to run for office. If we keep sitting on our hands, we can be assured that Ralph, Donnelly and the Ralphlings WILL take over. So Uncle Betty, if you can post how one goes about running for office, that sure would be swell!

Based on your pleas for candidates, you must believe that all of Woodbury reads this blog. Oh naive one...If there are more than 50 people who check this unk ego trip out, it would be nothing short of a miracle. Poor little Curious George... apparently you were denied as a child, and never got to play "Telephone". There is a little thing called word of mouth, in which one person talks to another, and it snowballs. Well, I hate to burst the bubble that you're living in, but that's exactly what has happened with this blog. Not every reader posts, and there is alot that is read and then spread. Candidate announces bid for Woodbury Village mayor
Woodbury - Three weeks after Woodbury’s citizens decided to form the 37-square-mile Village of Woodbury, a candidate for public office in that huge village has emerged: Donna Colombo of Highland Mills has declared her candidacy to become the village’s first mayor.
Colombo, like the other approximately 10,000 citizens of the new village, doesn’t know when Election Day will come.
“We’re not exactly sure of the petitioning process, but I have spoken to the Orange County Board of Elections and Woodbury Town Clerk Desiree Potvin about it, said James Skoufis, Colombo’s campaign manager.
Based upon the chronology of events in the newly created Village of South Blooming Grove, a November election would be likely. Voting machines, however, may be tied up due to the general election on Nov. 7.
Most villages in New York State hold non-partisan elections, meaning candidates don’t run on rows of the various parties with state status such as Democrat, Republican, Conservative and Working Families. State status is achieved by a party’s candidate for governor receiving 50,000 votes. Candidates in non-partisan elections run on a party line, but the candidates may choose any name they like, such as Integrity, Frugality, Environmental or Common Sense.
“I’m running for mayor as an independent,” said Colombo in a telephone interview this week. “I am not involved in any political circles.
“We need responsible, careful and responsive leadership to ensure that the transition to village status is as efficient, inexpensive and accommodating as possible,” Colombo added.
She vows to work with the town government to make certain that the best interests of the residents of Woodbury are served.
If elected, Colombo would “strengthen zoning and protect Woodbury from over-development and over-crowding.”
The Citizens for the Preservation of Woodbury, however, wish to “secure the present zoning and not change it.” That position was taken in the “Woodbury Preservation Kit” prepared by the group, chaired by Ralph Caruso, in support of a YES vote on village incorporation.
Colombo has lived in Woodbury for 12 years. She operates her own business, Studio 32, which is a dance studio begun in Highland Mills and moved to Sugar Loaf. She worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years.
Colombo, who was widowed last winter, has a son in college and a daughter in Monroe-Woodbury Middle School.
If elected, she pledges not to take any salary that the mayor would receive.

The author of the Photo News letter, Steven Musich, lives on Roselawn Road(near Don Siebold)and is a Ralphling.
As to the "Democratic Dream Team,"
it is my understanding that there was a Democratic as well as a Republican Committee meeting held recently. Common sense would dictate that 'potential' candidates were discussed at both committee meetings. It's anybody's guess whether Bo or Bubbles will run. Which Ralphlings will run also remains a mystery at the moment, but not for long!
I can’t speak for the Democrats but I can tell you that there have been NO official meetings of the Republican Committee since May. At least none that I as a member of the committee, nor any of those whom I know on the committee were informed about to my knowledge. If you have specific information, please let me know. I am also a republican committee member. I agree with Jim Booth. To my knowledge there have been no republican committee meetings since May.
Of course the meeting that this person is speaking about is a back room secret meeting and the only committee members that were invited answer directly to Ralph Caruso.
But they do not have a majority to endorse anyone.
Ralph may have had a meeting under his new Preservation Committee. One of the reasons he is playing this Committee up is because he completely controls that committee.His members all hang on every misguided word he says. I only pity them.
Perhaps Mr Caruso should move to one of those jungle nations, or out to a 100 acre farm in the midwest or south where he can continue to have total mind control. Hey Ralph, don't forget your Preservation bible and your kool-aid!!

At the risk of being accused of being unethical again by posting to a response on this site, I will let you know that I cannot appoint a Village Clerk until the "Certificate of Incorporation" is received by me from the Secretary of State. Once this document is received, I will then appoint a Village Clerk and announce said appointment at the first Town Board meeting following the appointment. Mr. Burke, nor the Town Board, as a say in this appointment. Once the appointment is made, that individual will plan the election for Village officers by setting the date. For more information about the election process, please feel free to call my office and I will try to help answer questions. NOTE - I do not recall receiving a telephone call from Ms. Colombo's campaign manager and if I did, I would have given him the information that I know, as printed in Village Law.

Just to answer a couple of the previous questions/concerns:
The aforementioned "Ben for Congress" signs were on MY car, not Donna's. She occasionally uses the car, but she primarily uses another vehicle. When she said she was not involved in any political circles, she meant it.
As to my "lack of knowledge," as one poster put it, regarding the petitioning process, I contacted town hall numerous times (which the article mentions). They referred me to the Board of Elections, and the Board of Elections referred me to town hall. The town clerk told me that the whole process was very new to everyone and they would have to wait until they received the proper village papers before petitioning could begin. At the time of my interview by the Photo News, the papers had not yet been received and no one knew of the exact petitioning process.
