Most of the members of the Woodbury Democratic Committee love John Burke.
And why not?
He brought them victory.
He has a beautiful, warm smile
He's just a big, friendly teddy bear.
Until he isn't.
When Donna Columbo announced her run for mayor, she went to see John. She mentioned that Channel 12 was coming to interview her. That was until John called them. The minute she walked out the door John was on the phone demanding that Channel 12 hold off interviewing any candidate until they had all (read Ralph Caruso) announced.
John was part of Ralph’s "Preservation Team" and so he was preserving Ralph.
Bear in mind, he was just returning the favor. When John ran against Sheila two years ago, it was Ralph who put together the unsigned late hitting lie that helped bring John to victory.
It was a lesson that sank in and led directly to the Timber Ridge flier which lied Bo and Carlton into office.
But that’s just gravy. It’s not the main prize.
John’s job for the next 5 months will be to use the town board to do everything he can to make the village board look bad.
That’s to pave the way for Ralph’s next try to take over the village.
And if it means lying, if it means abusing the power of the town board, if it harms Woodbury - well, so what? It’s all in a good cause. The coronation of King Ralph.
But don’t take my word for it.
All I’m asking is that you keep your eyes open.

When Joe Ferguson shut down the original SOCA, I was always convinced that Burke had talked him into it.
SOCA had just had a string of major victories. The Times Herald Record had just named us one of the most influential groups in the Hudson Valley. We were in the middle of a battle to stop the block-busting.
Then Joe started having secret meetings with Darlene Reveille and John Burke.
And suddenly, Joe decided that we shouldn’t send out any more emails, distribute any more flyers, we froze in place for two months.
SOCA has been Woodbury’s best weapon against the corrupt leaders of Kiryas Joel. But, I believe, John helped kill SOCA.
Why?
Because we had also gotten in Ralph Caruso’s way.
Ralph wanted to control all information on creating a village of Woodbury, but we insisted that the public had a right to unbiased information.
Ralph put out lies, and we contradicted him.
There were two major beneficiaries to the death of the original SOCA - the crooked leaders of KJ and Ralph Caruso. And I am certain that John Burke helped bring that death about.
What Burke and Caruso did not expect was that those of us who felt that SOCA mattered would keep going, But we did. Nanci Binder and Shelby Young and Bob Fromaget and the Grecos and Mindy Binder and I formed SOCA-At-Work (which is now called OCEAN) and kept working. Because, to us, Woodbury was worth it.
But John and Ralph have repeatedly shown that they are more then willing to harm Woodbury in order to get control. And that’s scary.

You're quite right. We received very few donations.
Our regular expenses barely come to $100 a month, and yet we have to scramble to get that.
When we have a newsletter or flyers to print, we can go hundreds of dollars in the hole.
We are doing our best to protect our town. We could use help.
